Moravian And Juniata Set For ECAC Postseason

MADISON, N.J. - The Moravian College women, and Juniata College
men's basketball teams will begin their quest for a postseason
championship on Wednesday as each team competes in the ECAC
Division III South Region Basketball Championships.
Both teams claimed ECAC Championship bids after strong regular
seasons, and will play quarterfinal games Wednesday evening. The
semifinals and finals will take place on Saturday and Sunday at
sites and times to be determined after the quarterfinal rounds.
Moravian (16-10) earned the number-five seed in the women's
championship and travels to play fourth-seed Washington &
Jefferson College (20-7) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. With a victory
over Washington & Jefferson, the Greyhounds would face the
winner of the quarterfinal between top seed Gwynedd-Mercy College
and Lake Erie College in the semifinals. Moravian dropped a tight
two-point game on a late basket in the Landmark semifinals after
posting a 16-9 record in the regular season. The Greyhounds were
the highest scoring team in the conference during the regular
season, averaging nearly 70 points per game. The team was also the
only conference team to defeat Landmark Champion, and NCAA
Tournament participant The University of Scranton. Led by
All-Conference performers Kate Harrison and Alyssa Bisci, the
Greyhounds have four players averaring nearly 10 or more points per
game.
Juniata (17-10) is back in the ECAC field for the second straight
season after earning the team's first postseason berth last year.
The Eagles are the sixth seed and will face third seed Misericordia
University (18-9) at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. With a victory, the
Eagles would be paired up in the semifinals with the winner of the
game between second seed Carnegie Mellon University and
seventh-seed Grove City College. Juniata reached the championship
game of the Landmark postseason before falling in a tight game to
Scranton. Seniors Brian Cannon and Kyle Opitz were both
All-Conference picks as Cannon ranked among the Landmark leaders in
scoring and rebounding while Opitz was one of the top long-range
shooters in the conference. The Eagles ranked second in the
conference in both field goal percentage and defensive field goal
percentage.
In its first season of competition the Landmark Conference earned a
total of six postseason berths in basketball. Two men's and two
women's teams earned NCAA Tournament berths to go along with the
two ECAC selections.
