Landmark Select Conference Players of the Week
MADISON, N.J. - Following a week that featured conference play in all five Landmark fall sports, nine student-athletes have been chosen as Landmark Players of the Week. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.
Men's Cross Country:
Matthew Lutcza earns the honor for the second-straight week after a
strong run for Moravian at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh. The
senior was the first Landmark runner across the line in the Brown
race, running an 8,000-meter time of 25:57, which ranks as the
fastest time at that distance in the Landmark this year. He was
four seconds ahead of the next Landmark runner in a meet in which
seven of the eight conference schools competed.
Women's Cross Country:
Cadee Rockwell was the first Landmark runner across the line and
was fifth overall White Race of the Paul Short Run at Lehigh. The
senior was fifth in a field of 334 runners, and ran a time of 23:13
on the 6,000-meter course. She was 10 seconds ahead of the
next-closest Landmark runner in a field that included seven of the
eight Landmark institutions.
Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week:
Senior forward Mary Swarthout provided offensive punch in a pair of
Catholic wins. She scored the game-winning goal in both outings on
the week, opening the scoring and then adding a second tally as the
Cardinals topped McDaniel. She then opened the scoring just 1:10
into the match and added an assist for a total of seven points on
the week in Catholic's 4-1 win over Susquehanna.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Sophomore goalie Alison Dillard played 105 minutes in the cage
without conceding a goal in a pair of wins for Catholic this week.
The opened the week with a five-save performance to record the
shutout as the Cardinals knocked off McDaniel 5-0. She then did not
allow a goal and directed a defense that did not surrender a shot
while playing the first 35 minutes as Catholic improved to 2-0 in
Landmark play with a win over Susquehanna.
Men's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:
Elijah Lais had the only goal of the week for Goucher but it was a
big one as it provided the team with its second Landmark win. The
senior scored the golden goal, and only goal of the match, just two
minutes into overtime to send the Gophers to a 1-0 road Landmark
win over Juniata. The score tied him for the team lead with a pair
of scores this season.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Sophomore Paul Trisuzzi contributed to a pair of solid defensive
efforts that helped Scranton post an unbeaten week. The Royals
earned a 1-1 tie with USMMA as Trisuzzi helped the defense allow
only one goal from a free kick, and limit the visitors to eight
shots in 110 minutes. Earlier in the week he helped the defense
hold York (Pa.) off the scoreboard over the final 79:17 as Scranton
rallied from a one-goal deficit to claim a 2-1 victory.
Women's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:
Caroline Burke took care of all the offense as Catholic improved to
2-0 in conference play. The senior opened the scoring in the eighth
minute of its road match against Susquehanna, and then tallied an
insurance goal on a penalty kick in the 39th minute to complete the
2-0 victory.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Catholic senior back Erin Saia played a key role in a stout
defensive effort for the Cardinals this past week. She helped the
team record a second-straight shutout, holding Landmark opponent
Susquehanna to just six shots and not surrendering a corner kick in
a 2-0 Catholic road victory. The team has not conceded a goal in a
pair of Landmark victories.
Volleyball:
Junior Kelsey Fuller sparked Juniata to a perfect 4-0 weekend at
the first Landmark round-robin. The junior averaged 3.86 kills per
set, with a stellar .472 hitting percentage, while also bringing up
2.14 digs per set. She had a weekend best of 14 kills in a win over
Catholic, then closed the weekend with seven kills and a .467
hitting percentage in just two sets while downing Susquehanna. She
also contributed three aces and a block for the weekend, giving her
4.36 points per set over four contests.
