Landmark Players of the Week Chosen
MADISON, N.J. - Another full week of Landmark winter sports competition has earned eight competitors Landmark Player of the Week honors. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.
Men's Basketball:
Ross Danzig played a key role as Scranton earned its first two road
wins of the season and moved atop the Landmark standings by itself.
The freshman averaged 17.5 points over two games as the Royals
knocked off Catholic and Goucher. He produced his second
double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds in a win
over Goucher, and had 13 of his game-high 19 points in the second
half as Scranton rallied for the win. He had 16 points, four
rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win over Catholic. He
shot 52-percent from the field and 42-percent from three-point
range while totaling 35 points, 15 rebounds, five steals, three
assists and two blocks.
Women's Basketball:
Senior Danielle Barber played three strong all-around games for
Drew this past week. With two of three games coming against
nationally-ranked opponents, she averaged 22.3 points, 6.7
rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.3 steals while shooting 51-percent
from the field and 50-percent from three-point range. She scored 24
points in nearly helping Drew knock off Landmark leaders Juniata,
and then poured in 24 again in a win over Susquehanna that kept the
Rangers in range of a postseason berth. She also had nine rebounds
and five steals in the win, and totaled 48 points, 13 rebounds, 10
assists and six steals in the two Landmark games while playing
every minute. She had 19 points and seven rebounds in a loss to
nationally-ranked William Paterson.
Men's Field:
Timothy Layng of Moravian continued his strong early-season
performances for the Greyhounds. He set a new Landmark and Moravian
record by winning the pole vault at the Delaware Thomson
Invitational. He cleared 4.90-meters, breaking the previous
Landmark record of 4.75-meters. The height ranks fourth in NCAA
Division III this season.
Women's Field:
Kristin Stam was a standout for Susquehanna at the Bucknell
Invitational. The senior placed second in the triple jump, setting
a new school record with a leap of 11.29 meters. The distance is
the 12th-best in Division III this year. She also added a jump of
4.99 in the long jump which is the best in the conference this
year, and added a performance of 9.75 in the 60-meter
hurdles.
Men's Swimming & Diving:
Caleb Capozella turned in a strong performance for Catholic at the
team's final regular season dual meet. The sophomore won three
individual events in a tight loss to Randolph-Macon. He won the 100
backstroke in a time of 54.89, placed first in the 200 backstroke
in 1:59.17 and added a win in the 200 IM with a mark of 2:00.89.
All three times rank in the top-6 in the Landmark this season in
their respective events.
Women's Swimming & Diving:
Katie Paterson helped Marywood close the regular season with a
victory with a strong showing against Arcadia. The sophomore won
three individual events and was part of a winning relay. She
touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle by swimming 2:05.29,
was also first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:28.79 and then
won the 200 IM in 2:27.23. She also swam in the winning 200-medley
relay that claimed a winning time of 2:02.13.
Men's Track:
Joe Zamadics turned in a pair of strong efforts for Susquehanna at
the Bucknell Invitational. The senior placed fifth in the mile at
the meet, running 4:23.46 the fastest time in the conference this
season and a mark that would have ranked in the top-3 all of last
season. He also anchored the Distance Medley Relay that missed
setting a new Landmark record by less than a second with a time of
10:36.11.
Women's Track:
Laura Kinley claimed a pair of first-place finishes for Catholic at
the Lebanon Valley Invitational over the weekend. She bested the
field in the 800 meters, posting a winning time of 2:30.61. She
then added a win in the mile, covering the distance with a time of
5:49.09.
