Eight Athletes Chosen As Landmark Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - Another full week of winter sports action has earned eight student-athletes Landmark Player of the Week recognition. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.

Men's Basketball:
Junior Jason Banzhaf helped Catholic pick up a pair of crucial road conference wins as the Cardinals enjoyed a perfect 2-0 week. He helped avenge an early season loss by scoring 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in a win over Susquehanna, then followed it up with a second double-double by going for 13 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Juniata. He shot 61-percent from the field, 40-percent from three-point range and averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds over the two games. He also added four steals on the defensive end.

Women's Basketball:
Moravian’s Alexandra Blair turned in three strong efforts to help the Greyhounds go 3-0 on the week and extend their winning streak to 13 games. She posted a huge 16-point, 18-rebound game in a non-conference win over Alvernia, doing that damage in just 21 minutes of action. The 18 rebounds are a Landmark single-game record. She then added 10 points in a conference win over Drew, and 11 points and nine rebounds in a victory over USMMA. She also contributed 10 blocked shots for the week, with five coming against Alvernia. She averaged 12.3 points, 10 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game, while shooting 59-percent from the floor.

Men's Field:
Freshman Travis King had another strong performance for the Greyhounds at the Delaware Thomson Invitational. He placed second among 20 competitors in the triple jump, posting a best leap of 13.30 meters, second-best in the Landmark this season and fourth best mark in Landmark history indoors.

Women's Field:
Senior Rachel Riggs helped Moravian place third among 12 Division II/III teams at the Delaware Thompson Invitational. She won the triple jump event, posting a leap of 10.60 meters, and then jumped 4.95 meters to add a third-place effort in the long jump. She also contributed a third and eighth-place finishes on the track in the 200 and 60-meter dashes respectively.

Men's Swimming & Diving:
USMMA’s Trevor Mays helped his team conclude its dual-meet season with a tie against nationally-ranked Stevens Institute. The sophomore won two events, posting a time of 1:44.34 to win the 200 freestyle, and 48.27 to win the 100 freestyle, with both times ranking among the fastest in the conference this season. He also added a second-place finish in thr 500 freestyle, and swam the anchor leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay.

Women's Swimming & Diving:
Junior Lindsay Cooper helped Juniata to its first win of the season with a strong performance in a tri-meet at Penn State-Atoona. She earned first-place finishes in three individual events, touching the wall first in the 50 freestyle (26.87), the 100 freestye (59.36) and the 100 breaststroke (1:17.42) to help Juniata earn a win over Hood as part of the tri-meet.

Men's Track:
Paul Thistle ran an NCAA Division III provisional quaifying time in the 5,000-meter run at the Bucknell Open and Multi meet this weekend. Thistle placed second out of 45 runners from all three divisions in the race, posting a time of 14:47.16 that broke the Susquehanna school record and provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Championships.

Women's Track:
Against a field of runners from Divisions I II and III Susquehanna’s Casey Hess turned in a fifth-place performance in the 5,000 meters at the Bucknell Open and Multi meet. Hess covered the distance in a time of 18:13.14, the second-fastest indoor time in Landmark history for 5,000 meters, and the fastest in the conference this season.
