Landmark Selects Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - Ten student-athletes have been chosen as Landmark Players of  the Week after another week of spring sports competition. The Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.

Baseball Player:
Senior Steve Wilk helped Juniata sweep its conference open­ing doubleheader against Catholic. He knocked out four hits and scored four runs in the two games while also adding an RBI. He scored the winning run in both contests and added one home run on the day. Hit .500 with an .875 slugging percentage and did not commit an error over the weekend.

Baseball Pitcher:
Freshman William Ritchey won his Landmark debut to help USMMA claim one win from its three-game series against Drew. Ritchey tossed a complete game victory, scattering five hits and allowing no earned runs over seven innings in the 5-1 win. He struck out four Rangers in the contest. He also tossed an inning earlier in the week in a USMMA victory over Purchase.  

Men's Lacrosse Offense:
Brian Flannery enjoyed two productive offensive matches for USMMA. He established a new career high with five points on four goals and an assist in a victory over Ohio Northern. He also had a team-high two scores earlier in the week against Muhlen­berg. His five-point performance helped USMMA score 17 goals against Ohio Wesleyan, the most goals the team has allowed this season.

Men's Lacrosse Defense:
USMMA junior Michael Condron had a pair of strong games defensively as the Mariners went 1-1 on the week. He totaled 11 ground balls on the week, six of which came in a win over peren­nial power Ohio Wesleyan. Condron also picked up an assist on a critical goal in the Ohio Northern match. He had five ground balls, and helped hold Muhlenberg to 10 goals in USMMA's other match on the week.  

Women's Lacrosse Offense:
Goucher senior Kate Knitter turned in a dominant offensive performance in the Gopher's only contest this past week. She found the back of the goal seven times, while adding two assists for Goucher against Notre Dame (Md.). The seven goals and the nine points were both season highs for her, and season highs for Goucher.

Women's Lacrosse Defense:
Moravian goalkeeper Courtney Rosenberg turned in three solid efforts for the Greyhounds this past week. She played all 180 min­utes over three matches and made 40 saves while also recording 10 ground balls. Rosenberg enjoyed one of the best matches of her career with a career-high 18 saves and four ground balls in a win over Bryn Mawr. She finished the week with a 14.67 goals against average over the three contests and averaged 13.3 saves per game.  

Softball Player:
Amanda Paulus was an offensive force for Moravian as the team swept a pair of doubleheaders. She was 6-for-9 at the plate over the four games (.667 average) and contributed seven RBI. She had at least one hit in three of the four games, and had two multi-hit performances on the week. She was 2-for-2 with a home run and a triple in one of the victories over Baptist Bible and produced another triple in a win over Wilkes. She had three hits in three at-bats in the final game against Wilkes, and added two RBI and a run scored.

Softball Pitcher:
Moravian junior Maria DeBonis was nearly perfect for the Grey­hounds in a pair of victories. She opened the week by tossing her second career no-hitter in a five-inning win over Baptist Bible. She struck out nine batters and walked one in the contest. She followed it up by tossing a perfect game over six innings in a Moravian win over 17th-ranked Wilkes. DeBonis 11 hitters in the contest and di not allow a base runner. She became the first player in Moravian history to throw a perfect game and to throw back-to-back no-hitters.

Men's Tennis:
Senior John Dillon played a major role as Catholic opened Land­mark Conference play with a 6-3 win over Moravian. Dillon cruised to a straight set singles win at the second singles posi­tion, and battled to a tough victory in doubles play as well. He earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory to win his seventh singles match of the season. Dillon began the day by teaming with Andrew Kracht to claim a tight 9-7 win at first doubles which helped Catholic build a lead it would not relinquish. 

Women's Tennis:
Senior Christina Grimm was 3-1 in a pair of Goucher victories this past week, including providing a singles win in the team's Landmark opener. She dropped just one game while claiming a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles as Goucher defeated Drew 6-3 in its Landmark opener. Earlier in the week she claimed a 6-2, 6-1 vic­tory at third singles and was part of an 8-0 win at third doubles as Goucher downed Wesley 6-3. The two singles wins improved her record to 6-2 in dual match action this season.
