Spring Sport Players of the Week Selected
MADISON, N.J. - With the regular season winding down this spring fourteen competitors have been chosen as Landmark Players of the Week for their performances last week. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.
Baseball:
Player:
Tim Mierzwa helped Catholic earn a series victory over
Susquehanna in a key Landmark series. He knocked out six hits over
12 at-bats for the week over four games, four of which came in
Catholic's two wins in the Landmark series. He posted a .500
average and a .600 on-base percentage with five runs scored, three
RBI and a pair of walks for the week, while also stealing a
base.
Pitcher:
Drew’s Ken Myers pitched a gem to win the series
opener against Landmark foe Scranton as the team went on to win the
series. He tossed 8 1-3 innings, allowing only one earned run and
three hits while tying a career-high with 11 strikeouts. He allowed
two runs overall to earn the victory, and posted an ERA of 1.08 for
the contest.
Men's Lacrosse:
Offensive:
Matt Lynch was an offensive force as Goucher downed
Landmark rival Scranton in the team's only action of the week. The
senior scored five goals, and added two assists to have a hand in
more than half the team's goals in the win that clinched the top
postseason seed for the Gophers. He also had three ground balls in
the match to contribute defensively.
Defensive:
Ran Kirby earns the honor for the second time in as many weeks as
he helped the team to a pair of wins including the team's first
Landmark win. He stopped 22 shots as the President's rallied to
earn a road win over USMMA, allowing only eight goals in the match.
He also had five saves and allowed just two scores while playing 31
minutes in a win over Thiel. He finished the week with 27 saves, a
73-percent save percentage and a 6.59 goals against average, while
also collecting four ground balls.
Women's Lacrosse:
Offense:
Aileen Musynke paced the Drew offense as the team pulled out a pair
of one-goal wins. In a key Landmark contest against Scranton, the
senior scored four goals and added an assist as the Rangers earned
an 11-10 win. Earlier in the week she again went for four goals and
passed out two assists in a 15-14 win over Connecticut College. She
was 4-for-5 on free position shots in the two matches, while adding
three ground balls, a draw control and two caused turnovers.
Defense:
Catholic's Tricia Pehnke was strong in goal for Catholic as the
team picked up a pair of non-conference wins. She allowed six goals
and made 11 saves in a win over Elizabethtown, and surrendered just
two goals with two saves in 30 minutes of action against McDaniel.
Her goals against average over two matches was 5.34 and she
produced a 70-percent save percentage. She also had four ground
balls in the contest to help the defense.
Softball:
Player:
Jenn Dalickas powered the Moravian offense during a 5-1
week for the Greyhounds. The freshman slugged three home runs over
a two-game Landmark sweep of Juniata, and her four homers for the
week gave her a 1.357 slugging percentage for the week. She hit
.500 overall with a .619 on-base percentage while also scoring five
runs and driving in 11. Six of her eight hits for the week went for
extra bases, and she also drew four walks.
Pitcher:
Christine Capalbo picked up a key victory for Scranton to
help the Royals earn a split in a Landmark series with Catholic.
The senior tossed a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win for
Scranton, scattering four hits while striking out two as the win
clinched a postseason spot for the Royals. It was her 12th win of
the season and 10th complete game of the year.
Men's Tennis:
Kevin Holze was unbeaten in singles doubles action over three
matches last week, including a Landmark win that clinched a
postseason berth for Moravian. He won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and
produced an 8-0 win at first doubles in the win over Goucher that
secured a postseason spot. He also accounted for both the team's
points in a loss to Wilkes, and then again did not drop a game in
singles and doubles in a win over Neumann.
Women's Tennis:
Julia Lerner battled to a critical victory as the
Crusaders clinched the number-one seed for the Landmark postseason.
Lerner claimed a three-set victory with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win at
first singles in a 5-4 Susquehanna win over Drew. She also teamed
with Jessica Klinger to capture an 8-6 win at first doubles for the
Crusaders in the victory.
Men's Outdoor Track & Field:
Field:
Ken Schetroma produced a pair of top performances for Susquehanna
as a finale tune-up before the Landmark Championship. He placed
ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.72 which is the best in
the conference this season. He was then 12th in the shot put with a
mark of 14.59-meters that is also the best in the conference this
season.
Track:
Moravian's Nicco Dalpiaz had several strong performances for the
Greyhounds at their own Greyhound Invitational. He ran the fastest
time in the Landmark in the 110-meter hurdles, placing third with
an ECAC qualifying time of 15.18. He also ran a leg on the 4x100
relay at the meet that also ran an ECAC qualifying time. He added
an ECAC qualifying performance in the pole vault.
Women's Outdoor Track & Field:
Field:
Abby Schaffer of Moravian had a record-breaking day at the
Greyhound Invitational. She set a new school, and Landmark record
by clearing 4.22-meters to win the pole vault event at the meet,
breaking the previous Landmark outdoor record of 4.17. The mark is
the best in NCAA Division III this season.
Track:
Moravian's Lisa Williamson turned in two of the fastest
performances in the conference this season at the Greyhound
Invitational this past weekend. The senior ran 12.93 to place
seventh in the 100-meter dash, and then was eighth in the 200-meter
dash in a time of 25.87. Both times are ECAC qualifying marks and
rank as the fastest in the conference this season.
