Landmark Selects Fourteen Players Of The Week
MADISON, N.J. - Fourteen spring sport student-athletes have been chosen as Landmark Players of the Week in honor of their performances the past seven days. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.
Baseball:
Player:
Colin McCarthy helped power the Catholic offense to a
three-game Landmark sweep of Juniata. The freshman knocked out
seven hits in 11 at-bats, good for a .636 average and slugged 1.000
over the three game series. He posted a pair of three hit games,
and produced a home run and double among the seven hits, while also
driving in 10 runs and scoring four times.
Pitcher:
Adam Schroth earns Landmark Pitcher of the Week honors for
the second-consecutive week as he helped Catholic to a Landmark
series sweep. The sophomore went six innings, facing just 20
batters, in a shutout win over Juniata. He surrendered just two
hits and no earned runs while fanning eight to improve to 4-1 on
the year. He allowed only a pair of walks in the outing.
Men's Lacrosse:
Offensive:
Geoff Hary helped USMMA earn a split of two contests this
week with a productive all-around performance. He erupted for five
goals, half of his team's total, as the Mariners opened the week
with a 10-5 win over Manhattanville. He then struck for two goals
in a narrow loss to Montclair State. He scored the seven goals on
just 13 shots, while adding three ground balls and a pair of caused
turnovers.
Defensive:
Goalkeeper Charlie DeSocio enjoyed a strong afternoon as Drew
rallied to capture an important Landmark win over Scranton. The
senior stopped 11 shots, including nine in the second half, and
allowed only eight goals as Drew rallied to defeat Scranton 10-8.
Earlier in the week he made 10 saves while surrendering 11 goals in
a tight loss to Montclair State. He posted a 9.50 goals against
average with a .525 save percentage for the week, while also
contributing three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Women's Lacrosse:
Offense:
Mary Swarthout produced a stellar all-around week as Catholic went
2-0 including a win in its Landmark opener. She scored a
season-high eight goals as Catholic downed 10th-ranked Messiah in
overtime, and then added three goals and five assists in a win over
Drew in the team's first Landmark match of the year. She had two
assists in the Messiah match, giving her 18 points in the two games
(11 goals, seven assists) and she also accumulated 18 draw
controls, nine ground balls, and five caused turnovers.
Defense:
Goalkeeper Tricia Pehnke had a strong week in a pair of wins for
Catholic. She earned her first collegiate victory as she came on in
relief and made a pair of saves while conceding only four goals in
23 minutes to help Catholic earn a win over 10th-ranked Messiah.
Then in her first career start, she stopped eight shots with seven
goals allowed in a win over Drew in Catholic's Landmark opener. She
notched an 8.50 goals against average for the week, with a .476
save percentage.
Softball:
Player:
Caitlin McHenry powered the Scranton offense as the Royals
produced a 6-0 record this past week. The sophomore knocked out 12
hits, six of which went for extra bases as she slugged 1.250 over
the six games. She blasted three home runs, while adding two
doubles and a triple for a .600 batting average. She had five
multi-hit games and added a pair of stolen bases for the
Royals.
Pitcher:
Moravian's Alyssa Fegely enjoyed a solid week in the
circle as the Greyhounds went 5-1. She opened the week by tossing
her first career no-hitter in a 9-0 shutout win over Landmark
opponent Drew. She fanned seven in five innings in the win. She
then closed the week with another complete-game shutout, going six
innings and fanning three in a win over Ursinus. For the week she
allowed four earned runs on nine hits in 13 2-3 innings, for a 2.05
ERA. She struck out 13 and walked just three over the three
games.
Men's Tennis:
Catholic's Jean Paul Roman was a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles
competition as the Cardinals won a pair of Landmark matches. He
posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at second singles against Moravian, and then
did not drop a game with a 6-0, 6-0 second singles win against
USMMA. He also teamed with Cassian Utrie to earn wins at first
doubles by an 8-1 score against USMMA and an 8-3 mark against
Moravian.
Women's Tennis:
Chelsea Ott was a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles
competition for Moravian in a pair of Landmark matches this past
week. In a 5-4 win over Catholic she did not drop a game in a 6-0,
6-0 win at first singles, and also teamed with Katie Ziehn for an
8-0 win at first doubles. Ott also won twice in a narrow loss to
Drew, claiming a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first singles and an 8-6 win
at first doubles.
Men's Outdoor Track & Field:
Field:
Gary Zack continued his strong start to the outdoor season for
Moravian by setting a new school and Landmark record in the javelin
at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener. He won the
event with a throw of 67.69-meters, which bested his own Landmark
and school record of 67.36, which he set last season. He bested 28
other competitors to place first in the event.
Track:
Ceth Parker led the way for Juniata at the Jim Taylor Invitational
this past weekend. The senior picked up a win on the track, placing
first in the 5,000-meters, and winning the race by nearly 14
seconds. His time of 15:01.61 set a new Juniata outdoor record and
bested his previous best time in the event by nearly 30
seconds.
Women's Outdoor Track & Field:
Field:
Catholic's Kelly Carioto had three top-four finishes for the
Cardinals at the Jim Taylor Invitational this past weekend. She won
the shot put with a best mark of 11.42 meters finishing first among
36 competitors in the event. She then added a third-place finish
with a toss of 36.50-meters in the discus, and a fourth-place
effort in the hammer throw with a best mark of 38.47 meters.
Track:
Laura Alleve produced a strong performance on the track for
Susquehanna as the team hosted the Jim Taylor Invitational. She ran
the fastest 800-meter time in the Landmark this season, indoor or
outdoor, and placed fourth overall in the event. She covered the
distance in a time of 2:22.51.
