Nine Competitors Named Landmark Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - In the final week before full conference competition begins, nine Landmark student-athletes have been selected for Landmark Player of the Week honors. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.
Men's Cross Country:
Scranton junior Chris Wasnetsky earned his seventh Invitational
title of his career as he placed first among 123 runners at the
Misericordia Cougar Classic. He covered the 8K course in a time of
26:44 to finish 17 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. It was
the third fastest 8K time in the conference this season, and came
with three other Landmark teams in the field.
Women's Cross Country:
Casey Hess earned the first individual event title of her career
as the Susquehanna sophomore placed first out of 97 runners at the
Misericordia Cougar Classic. She ran the 5K course in a time of
19:12, the fastest time in the conference at that distance this
season, and she helped the Crusaders place second out of 11 teams,
including three other Landmark opponents.
Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week:
Paula Price helped Juniata to an unblemished 2-0 week with two
strong offensive games. She scored two goals, including the
game-winner with seven minutes remaining, and also added an assist
on the final goal as Juniata downed Delaware Valley 4-2. Earlier in
the week she scored the team’s last goal in a win over York.
For the week she scored three times and an assist, good for seven
points.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Moravian keeper Maura Acox helped the Greyhounds to a 2-1 week
with three strong performances. She recorded a 0.65 goals against
average while posting a pair of shutouts for Moravian. She stopped
five shots in 75 minutes in a 1-0 overtime victory over Arcadia,
and then added one save in earning a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over
Richard Stockton. She finished the week with eight saves and just
two goals allowed in 215 minutes of action.
Men's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:
Freshman Sam Nepveux helped Drew break out of its offensive slump
with two strong efforts. He scored his first collegiate goal, the
second of the match, as Drew earned its first win of the season by
topping York (N.Y.) 6-0. He then put the Rangers in front 1-0 in a
road match against Vassar with his second tally of the week.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Scranton senior defender Justin Canning was a steady performer in
defense in a pair of Royals’ victories. He made a critical
play late in the Royals’ 2-1 win over Alvernia, as he cleared
a potential game-tying shot off the line after it beat the Scranton
keeper. He helped Scranton hold the visitors to just seven shots on
goal. Earlier in the week he was a key part of a defense that
limited Ursinus to three shots on goal in a Scranton victory.
Women's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:
Freshman Sydney Parker was a big part of a pair of lopsided
victories for the Scranton women’s soccer team this past
week. She scored her first collegiate goal to give the Royals a 1-0
lead in the third minute en route to a 6-0 win over King’s,
and then struck twice for Scranton’s first two tallies in a
5-0 win over Misericordia.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Senior central defender Chelsea King anchored a Catholic defense
that did not concede a goal in two matches this past week. With
King leading the way, the Cardinals limited Marymount to just two
shots in a 6-0 Catholic win, and then on Saturday she helped the
team keep Alvernia off the board completely as the visitors were
held without a single shot in a 2-0 Catholic win. The Cardinals
have conceded just one goal in seven matches.
Volleyball:
Juniata sophomore Amanda Schmidt turned in three efficient
offensive matches against nationally-ranked opponents. In a win
over sixth-ranked St. Thomas (Minn.) she knocked out 14 kills with
only two errors as the Eagles pulled out the win. She also had nine
kills in a three-set loss to seventh-ranked Washington (Mo.). For
the week she tallied 29 kills with a just five errors for a .428
hitting percentage, and also contributed seven digs.
