Susquehanna Leads President's All-Sports Cup Standings After Fall Season
MADISON, N.J. – On the strength of claiming three Landmark
Conference Championships during the fall, Susquehanna University
sits atop the Landmark President’s All-Sports Cup standings
after the completion of the fall sports season. With six of the
Landmark’s 20 sports having finished their seasons,
Susquehanna is atop the standings with a score of 7.67. Juniata
College, who was in first place in the fall of the 2007 season sits
in second place with 7.00 points. The University of Scranton and
The Catholic University of America round out the top half of the
standings with 6.08 and 5.92 points respectively.
The Landmark President’s All-Sports Cup is awarded based on
a formula that rewards institutions for their finishes in the
regular season conference standings as well as results in Landmark
postseason competition. The formula also takes into account the
number of sports a school sponsors.
Susquehanna enjoyed a strong all-around fall season as the
Crusaders claimed Landmark titles in men’s and women’s
cross country along with men’s soccer. The team also
qualified for the postseason in both volleyball and field hockey,
and reached the championship match of the Landmark volleyball
postseason.
Juniata qualified for Landmark postseason play in all but one fall
sport, and earned conference titles in volleyball and field hockey
for the second-consecutive season. The Eagles also finished as the
runners up in men’s and women’s cross country, and
qualified for the Landmark postseason in women’s soccer.
Scranton had a well balanced season as the team finished in the
top half of the standings in all six sports. The Royals were second
in the regular-season standings in volleyball and held the third
spot in the standings in men’s and women’s soccer and
women’s cross country.
Like Scranton, Catholic was consistent throughout the fall sports,
and really asserted itself in Landmark postseason play. The
Cardinals finished atop the field hockey regular season standings
for the second-straight year, and then reached the Landmark
postseason championship match in field hockey, men’s soccer
and women’s soccer.
Moravian College currently holds the Landmark President’s
All-Sports Cup after claiming the inaugural title by a razor-thin
margin over Scranton following the 2007-08 academic year.
With the fall season now complete, the eight Landmark institutions
have already begun competition in the winter season. The teams will
compete in men’s and women’s swimming and diving,
men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and
women’s indoor track and field during the winter months.
