Landmark Honors Names Players of the Week
MADISON, N.J. - Following the first full week of the spring
sports season nine student-athletes have been selected as Landmark
Conference Players of the Week. The Player of the Week selections
are made by the conference office.
Baseball Player:
Juniata's Dan Kauffman produced some monster offensive numbers for
the Eagles over four games on the team's spring break trip.
Kauffman hit .700 (7-for-10) with six of his seven hits going for
extra bases. He belted three home runs, and added two doubles and a
triple while piling up five RBI. Kauffman also walked eight times
and scored five runs during the week, though the Eagles finished
0-4.
Baseball Pitcher:
Moravian hurler Brandon Palmissano earned a win and a save for the
Greyhounds on its spring break trip. He posted a 2.08 ERA in two
relief appearances and allowed only one unearned run in 4 2/3
innings of work. He tossed 2 2/3 innings of relief against Wilkes
to capture his first collegiate win, and then went 1 2/3 against
Baruch to capture a save. Palmissano fanned six strikeouts while
scattering six hits for the week.
Men's Lacrosse Offense:
Jason Tosches turned in two outstanding offensive performances as
Moravian swept two games on its spring break trip. Tosches found
the back of the goal six times and also captured two assists in a
victory over Alvernia. He followed it up with another six-goal
performance in a victory over New England. His six goals in the
second contest gave him 53 for his career, making him the fifth
Greyhound to reach the 50-goal plateau.
Men's Lacrosse Defense:
Moravian goalkeeper Benjamin Leavy was solid in a pair of Greyhound
victories during the team's spring break trip. He conceded just two
goals in a win over Alvernia, and then allowed six scores in a
victory over The University of New England. Leavy posted 27 saves
on the week, including 17 in the win over New England, and allowed
an average of just four goals per game.
Women's Lacrosse Offense:
Drew's Staci Brown had two strong performances in a pair of Ranger
victories. Brown was dominant in a 19-14 win over Monclair State as
she scored five goals and contributed 12 draw controls. She also
had four groundballs and two caused turnovers as Drew rallied for
the victory. She played limited minutes in a win over the
University of Dallas but still scored once and produced two draw
controls.
Women's Lacrosse Defense:
Defender Katie Wise of Moravian played big role as the Greyhounds
opened the season with a 19-3 win over Cedar Crest. She had two
ground balls and also forced a turnover in the match, while
recording one shot. She helped limit the opponent to just 15 shots
for the match.
Softball Player:
Moravian third baseman Kelly Santry was an offensive force for the
Greyhounds in a pair of games against perennial postseason teams at
the Salisbury Sea Gull Invitational. Against third-ranked Lynchburg
she was 3-for-4 with a double an RBI and a run scored. That came
after a three-hit, two-RBI performance in a win over King's. Two of
her hits were doubles against the Monarchs. Santry hit .750
(6-for-8) over the two games.
Softball Pitcher:
USMMA's Jess LaValley earned the victory in both of her team's wins
during its spring break trip. She posted a 0.90 ERA over three
games, tossing complete games in all three starts. She posted a
complete-game shutout in a win over Ferrum and allowed only one run
apiece in her other two starts. She struck out 19 batters and
walked just six in 20 innings of work, and held opponents to a .176
batting average.
Men's Tennis:
Moravian's Chandler Forman picked up a total of four victories from
three matches on the team's spring break trip. Playing at third
singles he captured straight set wins against Ferrum and Division
II Michigan Tech. He also earned doubles victories in each of those
contests, helping Moravian to a win and a tie respectively in those
matches.
