Landmark Picks Full Slate Of Spring Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - A critical week of Landmark action in which numerous postseason berths were secured has earned 14 student-athletes Landmark Player of the Week recognition. The Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark office.

Baseball Player:
Susquehanna’s Tyler Reichard was an offensive force as the Crusaders clinched the Landmark regular-season title with a sweep of USMMA. He had nine hits for the week, and eight in the three-game series to post a .562 batting average, while also scoring five runs. He belted a home run and added a double and produced four RBI for the Crusaders. He also drew four walks during the week.

Baseball Pitcher:
Juniata freshman Matt Regan captured his first career victory as he went the full nine innings to give the Eagles a win over Scranton and secure the series victory. The freshman surrendered just two hits in earning the complete-game win, and allowed two runs, one earned in the game. He struck out four in the contest.

Men's Field:
Moravian’s Michael Blenk had a strong day on his home track at the Greyhound Invitational. He finished second in the long jump with a leap of 7.02 meters which is an NCAA Provisional qualifying distance and ranks as the best in the conference this season. He was also ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.79 which ranks behind only his own best mark in the conference this year.

Women's Field:
Moravian’s Anna Heim matched her own school record and was the only team individual event winner at the Greyhound Invitational this past weekend. She posted an NCAA automatic qualifying performance as she cleared 3.87 meters to win the pole vault at the meet. She bested a field of 27 competitors, and cleared a height .30 meters better than her next competitor.

Men's Lacrosse Offense:
USMMA’s Brennan Dougherty had a big offensive week as the Mariners concluded its Landmark regular season.with a pair of victories. In a tight 8-6 win over Drew Dougherty’s offense was the difference as he scored a game-high four goals to help the Mariners to the win. He then served as a playmaker in a win over Susquehanna as he produced five assists. He finished the week with nine points while also contributing four ground balls.

Men's Lacrosse Defense:
Max Walter keyed a Goucher defense that helped the Gophers earn two big Landmark wins this past week. He notched seven ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while helping to limit Catholic to five goals in a 9-5 win, he then had four more ground balls and another three caused turnovers in a 16-6 victory over Drew. Totaled 11 ground balls and five caused turnovers for the week, and also jumped into the offense with a goal against Drew, which was the third of his career.

Women's Lacrosse Offense:
Goucher’s Colleen Cole was an all-around offenseive force in a pair of Gopher victories. She played a part in eight goals (three goals, five assists) in Goucher’s Landmark win over Moravian, then added three goals and four more assists in a non-conference win over Frostburg State. Cole also produced three ground balls and seven draw controls for the Gophers during the week.

Women's Lacrosse Defense:
Rachel Hanley had a pair of strong performances in net as Drew picked up a pair of victories. In a Landmark win over Susquehanna she stopped three shots and conceded just five goals as the Rangers picked up a victory. Earlier in the week she recorded 10 saves and surrendered just eight goals as Drew downed the second-ranked team in the West Region. Her goals against average for the week was 7.75 and she also contributed a pair of ground balls.

Softball Player:
Catholic freshman Megan Rizzi piled up some big offensive numbers for the Cardinals as the team had a busy eight-game week. She hit safely in seven of the eight games, including four three-hit games and scored seven runs with 11 RBI for the week. In four Landmark games she was 6-of-12 at the plate in four Landmark games, with six RBI and a pair of runs scored. She had a double and a home run which was a grand slam in a win over Moravian that handed the Greyhounds their first Landmark defeat.

Softball Pitcher:
Moravian’s Jenna Carmon was a perfect 3-0 including two Landmark wins for the Greyhounds this past week. She tossed 19 total innings, allowing just two earned runs and 11 hits to post a 0.74 ERA. She went the distance for a shutout in a win over Catholic, then tossed seven innings and allowed just one earned run in a win over nationally-ranked Ramapo. She closed the week with a one-hitter over seven innings against Susquehanna, a win that clinched the regular season Landmark title for the Greyhounds. She fanned six batters for the week.

Men's Tennis:
Drew’s Jeff Marshall claims the honor for the second-straight week as he was a perfect 6-0 in singles and doubles action during three Drew victories. He helped the Rangers earn a tough 5-4 win over Moravian with a straight-set win at first singles over the reigning Landmark Player of the Year, and he also teamed with Elliot Smego for a win at first doubles oto beat a previously unbeaten pairing. He added first singles and first doubles wins in a Landmark victory over USMMA, and also in a non-conference triumph over Hunter. Each of his singles wins came in straight sets.

Women's Tennis:
Dyana Swan helped Moravian win two Landmark matches and clinch at least the number-two seed for the upcoming Landmark postseason. The senior was a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles action for the week. Playing at second singles she fought to a three-set win in a match against Scranton, and then captured a straight-set victory against Drew. She and teammate Jami Fein were also 2-0 in play at first doubles.

Men's Track:
Goucher senior Tade Ade-Turton had a pair of strong finishes at the Messiah Invitational. He placed third in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes at the meet, setting new school records in both events. He ran the 100 in 11.06 and crossed the line in 22.75 in the 200. Both times rank in the top-5 in the Landmark during the outdoor season.

Women's Track:
Alycia Woodruff posted two strong performances at two separate meets this weekend. She ran the fastest time in the Landmark this season in the 1,500 with a mark of 4:40.07 at the Princeton Invitational. The following day she won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Greyhound Invitational, setting a new Landmark record with a time of 11:39.30.
