Conference Selects Players Of The Week

Madison, N.J. - The Landmark Conference has recognized nine student-athletes as Players of the Week after another full weekend of conference competition. The selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.

Men's Cross Country:
Sophomore Paul Thistle was the first Landmark finisher across the line at the Paul Short Invitational this past week. With three other Landmark teams in the field, he placed 18th overall in the race and was the 14th finisher among Division III runners at the meet. His time of 26:31 topped his previous personal best at the 8K distance and ranks as the fastest 8K time in the Landmark this season.

Women's Cross Country:
JSenior Callie Beeler earns runner of the week honors for the second time this season as she helped the Mariners to a victory at the Drew Invitational. Beeler recorded the fastest time in the conference at the 5K distance with a mark of 19:02.30. She was the overall winner in the women's race, helping USMMA win the four-team invite.

Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week:

Sophomore Kayla Carson helped Moravian capture a pair of victories this past week as the team moved above .500 for the first time this season. In a 2-1 victory over Ramapo, Carson had the game-winning tally while assisting on Moravian's other goal. Earlier in the week she scored two of the team's goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-1 victory over Philadelphia Biblical.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Sophomore defender Julie Ehrmann played a pivotal role as Catholic knocked off 15th-ranked Juniata in its Landmark opener. Ehrmann recorded four defensive saves in the match to help preserve Catholic's lead as the Cardinals claimed a 4-1 victory over Juniata. Earlier in the week she was a key factor as Catholic shutout Mary Washington by a 1-0 score. The team's defense sur­rendered just one goal in 140 minutes of action on the week.

Men's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Freshman Kevin Duffy provided the offensive punch as Catholic enjoyed a 2-0 week including its first Landmark Conference win. Duffy provided the game-winning score as the Cardinals downed Landmark foe Juniata 2-1. Earlier in the week, the freshman had a goal and an assist in a 9-0 victory over Gallaudet.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Senior Chris Nitta becomes the first person to earn Player of the Week honors three times as he helped the Mariners capture a pair of wins. In a 1-0 victory over Landmark foe Moravian, Nitta led a USMMA defense that limited the Greyhounds to just three shots on goal over 90 minutes to record its fourth shutout of the sea­son. USMMA allowed an average of 4.5 shots on goal over two matches on the week.

Women's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Sophomore Michelle Flick was the difference-maker for Susque­hanna in a Landmark match against Goucher. Flick netted a hat trick as the Crusaders earned a 3-0 win over the Gophers for their first Landmark victory. The goals were the first three scores of Flick's career.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Freshman Kellen Matthews put together two strong performances in goal for Goucher despite a pair of losses. In a match against Landmark foe Susquehanna she made a conference record 22 saves over 90 minutes in a 3-0 set-back. Earlier in the week she made nine saves against Notre Dame (Md.). She closed the week with a 2.50 goals against average and an average of 15.5 saves per match.

Volleyball:
Sophomore Jesselyn LaValley turned in strong all-around perfor­mances this past week to help USMMA record a 3-1 record. Her best effort came in a 3-2 win over Baruch. LaValley was one block shy of a triple-double in the match as she had 31 kills, 20 digs and nine blocks. The 31 kills marked a new career high. She then earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team at the Hunter Invita­tional as USMMA went 2-1 at the event. She had a double-double in one of the matches at the invite with 16 kills and 25 digs against Farmingdale State. She was in double figures in kills in three of the four matches on the week, and averaged 4.86 kills, 4.21 digs and 1.36 blocks per game over the four matches.
