Landmark Selects Four Athletes Of The Week

MADISON, N.J. - The Landmark Conference has recognized four student-athletes as Players of the Week following the first week of competition for several winter sports. The selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.
Men's Basketball:

Scranton senior center Tom Bicknell was named the MVP of the Tom Masano Tournament (Alvernia) after helping the Roy­als claim the tourney title. Bicknell produced double-doubles in points and rebounds in both tournament games. He had 14 points ad 15 rebounds in the opener and then scored a career-best 21 points to go with 12 rebounds in the championship. He was 8-of-12 from the field in the championship game, and shot 59-percent from the field for the week. The two double-doubles gave him 19 for his career.

Women's Basketball:
USMMA senior center Morgan Gartner helped the Mariners start the 2007-08 season with a victory as she turned in one of the top performances in her career. In an 80-57 win over Mitchell Gartner poured in 23 points and also grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds. The 23 points were four shy of her career high. Gartner was 10-of-16 from the field in the game and also added a pair of steals on the defensive end.

Men's Swimming:
USMMA freshman Nick Halbach enjoyed an impressive debut as he qualified for the NCAA Championships in his first collegiate meet. Halbach won the 1-meter diving event at the Rowan Cup with a score of 452.20 and placed second in the 3-meter event with a total of 490.30. Both totals were good enough to qualify him for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Women's Swimming:
Susquehanna's Lauren Snyder earned a pair of crucial victories as the Crusaders outlasted Catholic in a Landmark Conference meet. Snyder held off a pair of Cardinal swimmers to win the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:07.61 and then posted a time of 5:45.24 to claim first place in the 500 freestyle. Her two wins helped Susquehanna claim a tight 107-98 win.
