Conference Selects Athletes of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - The Landmark Conference has selected eight Athletes of the Week after another full week of winter sports competition. The Athlete of the Week selections are made by the conference office.

Men's Basketball:
Chris Lopez turned in two strong all-around performances in a pair of Landmark victories for Drew. The senior scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and passed out three assists in a victory over Goucher to help Drew snap an 11-game losing streak. He followed it up with 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists as the Rangers downed Landmark foe Catholic. He shot 43-percent from the field, and 93-percent from the foul line over the two games, while averaging 13.5 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game.

Women's Basketball:
Drew's Laura Methvin had a pair of strong efforts as the Rangers swept two Landmark games to remain in the hunt for a postseason berth. Methvin scored 16 points, including the game-winning free throw with five seconds remaining to push Drew past Catholic. She also produced six rebounds in the victory. The previous night she scored 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting while collecting five rebounds in a win over Goucher. Methvin shot 55-percent from the field over the two contests while averaging 14 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.  

Men's Field:
Blair Maginnis helped Moravian best 10 other Division II and III teams at the Delaware Thomson Invitational. Maginnis earned an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, and broke the school record in the shot put with a winning throw of 15.67 meters. He then also recorded an ECAC qualifying distance of 14.84 meters with a second-place finish in the weight throw.  

Women's Field:
Moravian's Rachel Riggs won two individual events to help Moravian place third among Division II and Division III teams at the Delaware Thomson Invitational. Riggs notched an ECAC qualifying mark in the triple jump as she bested the field with a mark of 10.51 meters. She also claimed a victory in the long jump, with a best leap of 4.85 meters.  

Men's Swimming & Diving:
USMMA senior Jay Carpenter helped the team to one of the biggest wins in program history as they defeated Division I Georgetown, while also falling to Division I Connecticut. Carpenter swam to victory in the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:57.57 and then posted a time of 21.55 to win the 50 freestyle. He added one more individual win with a winning time of 52.35 to claim the 100 butterfly. Carpenter also swam a key leg on the winning 200 medley relay team which narrowly missed an NCAA provisional qualifying time.

Women's Swimming & Diving:
Gina Gottschalk of USMMA capped the regular season with a strong performance in the Mariner's win over previously undefeated Purchase. Gottschalk won two individual events, touching the wall first in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Her times in the two events were 28.29 and 1:02.12 respectively. She then swam the opening leg in the 200 freestyle relay which USMMA won to earn the tight 119-116 win.

Men's Track:

Ozzie Brown of Moravian claims his third athlete of the week honor after strong performances at the Muhlenberg Pentathlon and the Delaware Thomson Invitational. Brown won the pentathlon with an ECAC qualifying score of 3,715 points. He was the top finisher in the 55-meter dash, the long jump, the shot put and the high jump. At Delaware he then notched an NCAA provisional time by winning the 60-meter hurdles, and also ran to a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash.

Women's Track:
Jessica Posimo of Moravian enjoyed a strong weekend with top efforts at a pair of meets. She was the top finisher at the Muhlenberg Pentathlon as she put together a performance that earned her a new school record 2,940 points in the event. That total also qualifies her for the ECAC Championships. The next day she helped Moravian to a strong showing at the Delaware Thomson Invitational as she placed second in the 60-meter hurdles. Her time of 9.55 was actually slower than her prelim time of 9.10 which was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. She also earned points in a pair of jumping events.
