Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Men’s Basketball
The top four teams have been determined for the 2019 Landmark Men’s Basketball Championship. Drew University (18-5, 10-2 LC), Moravian College (16-7, 9-3 LC), University of Scranton (19-4, 8-4 LC), and Susquehanna University (15-8, 8-4 LC) have all punched their tickets. There are two game remaining in the regular season to determine seeding. Semifinals begin on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at higher seeds and the championship will be played on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the highest remaining seed.

Women’s Basketball
Elizabethtown College and the University of Scranton are guaranteed a spot in the upcoming Landmark Women’s Basketball Championship. The Lady Royals are 21-2 on the season and 10-2 in conference while, while the Blue Jays are 16-6 and 9-3 in the Landmark. Fighting for the final two spots are Catholic University (14-9, 6-6 LC), Drew University (13-9, 6-6 LC), Juniata College (9-14, 7-5 LC), and Moravian College (15-8, 7-5 LC).

Swimming & Diving
The conference championships will take place Friday, Feb. 15 and conclude on Sunday, Feb. 17. Click here for all championship information.

Men's Athlete of the Week - Matthew Mancuso, Scranton

Men's Athlete of the Week - Matthew Mancuso, Scranton

(Jr., F - Bridgewater, N.J.)

University of Scranton junior Matthew Mancuso had a pair of double-doubles on the week, leading Scranton to a pair of Landmark Conference victories. On Wednesday, the junior forward scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds as the Royals knocked off Moravian in overtime, 86-80. In a 77-68 win over Juniata on Saturday, Mancuso posted game-highs of 20 points and 15 rebounds, also a career-high, as the Royals clinched a playoff berth with the win. He finished the week shooting 64.7 percent from the field while adding five assists, five steals, and three blocks.

Women's Athlete of the Week - Lydia Lawson, Elizabethtown

(Jr, G - Mountain Top, Pa.)

Elizabethtown College junior guard Lydia Lawson continued to be the catalyst for the Blue Jays in another pair of Landmark Conference wins this past week. Lawson put up 17 points and nine assists against Goucher in 30 minutes before a 24-point, 7-rebound, 6-assist performance on Saturday at Drew to keep E-town in second place in the conference standings. She averaged 20.5 ppg, 7.5 apg, and 5.0 rpg this past week and shot 46 percent from the floor.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Greg Jaindl, Moravian

Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Greg Jaindl, Moravian

(Jr., Macungie, Pa.)

Moravian College junion Greg Jaindl set a school record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:33.92 in the invite race of the Fastrack National Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Park & Athletic Complex where he placed 18th overall.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Curtis Reynolds, Elizabethtown

(Jr., Orwigsburg, Pa.)

Elizabethtown College junior Curtis Reynolds won the triple jump (13.17m) for the second time this season and jumped just shy of his PR to win the event at Dickinson on Sunday. He was also fifth in the long jump (5.74m).

Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Sara Arbogast, Susquehanna

(So., Selinsgrove, Pa.)

Susquehanna University sophomore Sara Arbogast had a career day at the Cornell Invitational. She placed first out of a field of 53 in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.89, which is the top time in the conference this season. In the 60 meter, Arbogast placed seventh out of 38 with her top conference time of 8.11.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week - Andrea Galeano, Catholic

(Sr., Stratford, Conn.)

Catholic University senior Andrea Galeano won both field events over the weekend at the Larry Sharp Memorial Invite. Her 16.95m weight throw is now 10th best in Division III.
