July 8, 2010Landmark Honors Spring Sport Senior Scholar Athletes
Eight student-athletes have been chosen as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective spring sports. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities.

Baseball Players Capture All-Region Honors
Three Landmark Conference baseball players were honored for their play with selection to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region Team. Another two Landmark performers were recognized with selections to the All-Region Gold Glove Teams.

Scranton Baseball Duo Claim Academic Honors
Two members of The University of Scranton baseball team are now one step away from earning Academic all-America honors for the second time in their distinguished careers. Senior outfielder/pitcher Justin Champagne and junior outfielder Chris Stallone were named first-team District II all-Academic.

Top Seed Stops Moravian In NCAA Opener
The Moravian College baseball team dropped its first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament game, falling to top seed and top ranked Johns Hopkins University, 13-4, in the first round of the Trenton, New Jersey Regional being hosted by Kean University at Waterfront Park Wednesday afternoon.

Moravian Baseball Heading To NCAA Regional
The final Landmark Conference spring champion learned its NCAA fate on Monday with the release of the field for the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament. Moravian College is the eighth Landmark team to earn an NCAA berth this spring season and will begin competition with NCAA Regional play Wednesday May 19 at 1:15 p.m. at Waterfront Park in Trenton, N.J.

Landmark Announces All-Conference Baseball Team
A total of 24 student-athletes have been honored for their efforts on the baseball field this season with selection to the 2010 All-Landmark Conference Baseball Team as voted by the conferences seven head coaches. The All-Landmark Team includes a first and second team with the voting done by position. The voting also took place prior to the start of the Landmark postseason.

Sophomores Help Catholic Complete Sweep
Trailing 6-2 after 2½ innings Saturday, Senior Day was not going the way Catholic Universitys seniors wanted to end their regular-season careers at Robert J. Talbot Field. Sophomore Ross Hunsberger picked up his five senior teammates by doubling in three runs to punctuate a five-run third. When Scranton reassumed the lead, 9-7, its next time up, sophomore Dave Grear's grand slam put the Cardinals back on top, 11-9, in an eventual 12-9 victory.

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball team slugged its way to a 14-3 victory over the City College of New York on Thursday afternoon at Lower Roosevelt Field in Kings Point, N.Y. Junior starting pitcher William Richey (Denton, Texas) fired eight shutouts innings, encountered a small hiccup in the ninth and then locked down the Mariners third win of the season.

Scranton Baseball Completes Sweep Of USMMA
Senior first-baseman Chris Bligh continued his heroics for The University of Scranton Sunday afternoon against the Merchant Marine Academy at Connell Park. He capped off a 3-for-5 effort by hitting his team-leading sixth home run of the season to ignite a 7-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Royals broke a 6-6 tie to pull out a 13-6 victory.

2010 Landmark Baseball Season Gets Underway
The first two seasons of Landmark Conference baseball followed a similar pattern. One or two teams separated themselves from the pack during the regular season, only to see The Catholic University of America enter the double-elimination Landmark postseason as the fourth seed and roll to the title. With the 2010 Landmark Champion earning the first automatic NCAA Tournament berth, the question is anyone can wrest the crown away from Catholic?
