The Landmark Conference has chosen six athletes as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective fall sports. The University of Scranton’s Gretchen Kempf has been named the Field Hockey Senior Scholar Athlete.

The Landmark Conference has announced the selection of 32 student-athletes to the 2012 Fall Landmark All-Academic Team. The top two male and two female student-athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions who met the award requirements have been honored.

Six Landmark Teams Voted Best in Sportmanship
Following the completion of the fall sports season six teams have been recognized for sportsmanship. The Landmark Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) created a Sportsmanship Cup in the fall of 2009 and by the end of the year, one institution will be awarded the coveted trophy.

Catholic Field Hockey Comeback Falls Short in NCAA First Round
Down 2-0 to Lynchburg after only four minutes of Wednesday's NCAA Tournament 1st Round game, CUA battled back twice to tie the score and force overtime, but the Hornets scored just 40 seconds into OT to come away with a 4-3 win. The Cardinals season comes to an end with a record of 12-8 after winning their second straight conference championship.

The Landmark Conference champion CUA field hockey team learned its NCAA Tournament fate early Monday morning, and in a rematch of last year's NCAA second round game, the Cardinals will travel to face Lynchburg College.

Drew’s Brooke Gagliano scored in the fourth minute of OT to send the Rangers into the Landmark Conference championship with a dramatic 2-1 win over Scranton on Saturday in the semifinals. The Rangers fell behind the Royals 1-0 before scoring two straight, with Gagliano assisting on one, and scoring the other.

With Hurricane Sandy threatening the mid-Atlantic region early this week, the field hockey, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball tournament games scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 31 have all been moved to Thursday, Nov. 1. All of the game times will remain the same.

The CUA field hockey team earned its highest ranking in school history on Tuesday, coming in at No. 7 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll. The Cardinals, who are off to a 3-0 start, received 503 points and moved up four spots from their No. 11 preseason ranking.

Defending champion, Catholic University, was the unanimous pick among the league’s coaches to defend its 2011 Landmark Conference field hockey title. The Cardinals earned six first place votes for a total of 60 points, as institutions cannot vote for themselves.
