USMMA Prevails In NCAA Opening Round
The No. 23 U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s basketball squad is heading to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament after it took down Wesley College on Friday evening, 67-61, at Liebertz Gymnasium in Kings Point, N.Y.

Zach Ashworth Named Men's Basketball Academic All-American
In a season filled with numerous athletic achievements, Zach Ashworth (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), a junior guard on The University of Scranton men's basketball team, earned the ultimate academic honor. He was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American second team in a program sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Landmark Announces Men's Basketball All-Conference Team
A total of 12 student-athletes have been selected to the 2008-09 All-Landmark Conference Men’s Basketball Team as selected by the conference’s eight head coaches. The team consists of a first and second team, with six players on each team, and the selections made by position. The voting for the All-Conference Team took place after the conclusion of the regular season and prior to the start of the Landmark postseason.

Landmark Earns Three Spots In NCAA Basketball Tournaments
A trio of Landmark Conference basketball teams will represent the conference in NCAA Division III Tournament play beginning Friday March 5. With Landmark Champions earning automatic bids for the first time, the champions in men’s and women’s basketball both earned automatic bids while one other Landmark team was selected to the field as an at-large participant.

Mariners Top Scranton To Claim Landmark Men's Basketball Title
For the first time in school history the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s basketball team are Landmark Conference Champions. On Saturday afternoon, the top-seeded Mariners defeated the second-seeded University of Scranton, 68-54, at Liebertz Gymnasium in Kings Point, N.Y. USMMA grabbed the title from the Royals, who were two-time defending champions.

Matt Fazzini was honored prior to the game as part of Senior Night along with Coach Howes on his 100th win and Jason Banzhaf for his 1000th point, but it was Fazzini who hit the opening triple to put the Cards on top early. Goucher Keeps Postseason Hopes Alive With Road Win
Goucher made all four of its three-point field goal attempts in the first 5:52 of today's Landmark Conference game against Drew and that allowed the Gophers to jump in front, 13-2. Drew did battle back to grab a shortlived one-point lead midway through the second half, but the Gophers regained control of the contest and went on to defeat the Rangers, 55-49.

Drew Men's Hoops Works Overtime For Third Win In Four Games
Big shots, big plays and a career game from Mike Mayes helped the Rangers pick up their third win in four games with an impressive road victory over Montclair State, 74-71. Mayes finished with 28 points, including the free throw that forced overtime, and Kyle Joyce hit four three pointers en route to 15 points. McNeil Wrice had a key rebound and free throw in overtime to secure the non-conference victory. Drew improves to 6-12 on the season and has now won three of four and four of six in the second half of January.

Balanced Attack Leads Drew Past Vaughn
Drew men’s basketball made it two wins in three games as it defeated the Vaughn Warriors, 80-58, in Baldwin Gym on Tuesday night. Every Ranger contributed in the victory and all, but one, scored at least two points. Joe Horvath had 11 points and six rebounds for Drew (4-11) while Lavar Smith led the Warriors (6-7) with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Rangers shot a season high 53.6% in the win.

Banzhaf Reaches Milestone As Cardinals Top Gophers
Jason Banzhaf entered tonight's game needing 28 points to hit the 1,000-point mark in his career with the Catholic men's basketball team. With 3:11 remaining in the game, Banzhaf found himself at the free throw line with two shots coming and 26 points already in his back pocket. Swish! The first shot went through without even nearing the rim. As the official tossed him the ball the entire gym grew silent. The shot was up, and the tension was incredible. As the ball passed through the net, the crowd went wild knowing that Banzhaf had not only hit the 1,000-point mark but also sealed the game for the Cardinals. CUA (4-3, 1-0 LC) defeated Goucher (1-4, 0-1 LC) 77-60, with Banzhaf leading the way with a 28-point and 13 rebound game.

Mike Mayes led four Rangers in double figures with 17 points.

In one of the best college basketball games ever played in Baldwin Gym, Drew men’s hoops beat FDU in overtime, 77-72. Terrell Brown sent the game into OT with a driving layup in the final ten seconds of regulation and then scored four points in the extra period to lead the Rangers to a win in the Battle of Madison Avenue in front of a standing room only crowd at Drew.
