2017-18 Basketball Athletes of the Week

  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Jay Howard
    February 19, 2018
    (Sr., F - Pennsauken, N.J.) Catholic senior Jay Howard averaged 26.5 points per game in two must-win games for the Cardinals as the team closed out the regular season with two victories to make the Landmark Conference Tournament in all for years of Howard's career. He exploded for 34 points in a two-point win over Elizabethtown and showed his all-around game in a last-second win against Moravian. Down one, with two seconds left, Howard passed to an open 3-point shooter for the win. He also averaged 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists (seven against Moravian), 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Seth Callahan, Susquehanna
    February 12, 2018
    (Jr., G - Hanover Township, Pa.) Susquehanna junior Seth Callahan helped the River Hawks to a 2-0 weekend with wins over Catholic and Drew. Ini the 75-71 win ove the Cardinals, Callahan shot 50 percent from the field on 5-of-10 shooting for 15 points. He grabbed three rebounds, dished out two assists and had two steals. He scored a career-high 38 points including a school-record 12 3-pointers as as the River Hawks avenged an earlier loss to the Rangers with a 90-72.On the week, Callahan averaged 26.5 points, four rebounds.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Marcus Lee, Juniata
    February 05, 2018
    (Sr., F - Carrolltown, Pa.) Juniata senior Marcus Lee helped the Eagles to a 2-0 weekend with wins over Susquehanna and Scranton. In the 75-66 win over the River Hawks, Lee scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He pulled down seven rebounds and added three blocks. Against the Royals, Lee drilled the go-ahead three with just over a minute to play to help the Eagles clinch the victory. The win marked the first time Juniata has swept the season series against Scranton, the first time since the Landmark's inception in 2007. The senior finished the game with 23 points and three blocks in 32 minutes of action.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Ethan Danzig, Scranton
    January 29, 2018
    (Sr., G - Clarks Green, Pa.) Scranton senior Ethan Danzig had another big week, averaging 24.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 58.8 percent from 3-point range in a pair of victories. He opened the week with a season-high 30 -- one shy of matching his career high -- as the Royals handed Drew its first conference loss, 84-73, on Wednesday in the Long Center. He was 7-for-12 from 3-point range and 11 of 14 total from the floor, and added six rebounds and two blocks. Three days later, he had a team-high 19 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, in a 73-64 win at Elizabethtown. For the week, he also averaged 38.0 minutes per game.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Jay Howard, Catholic

    (Sr., F - Pennsauken, N.J.) Catholic's senior standout Jay Howard led the Cardinals to a 2-0 week with 24.0 points per game, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists as he shot over 60-percent from the field. Howard scored 22 in a midweek rout of Goucher, 90-64, and the put in 26 with eight rebounds as the Cards clamped down on Scranton, 75-52. Catholic has now won four of its last five and moved into sole possession of second-place in the Landmark standings.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Riley Collins, Drew
    January 15, 2018
    (So., G - Lacey, N.J.) Drew sophomore Riley Collins averaged 25.0 points, 3.5 assists and 4.0 steals in home wins over Moravian and Juniata. He shot 53.6 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from three-point range, and 94.1 percent at the line in the two games. Collins tallied 18 of his game-high 29 points in the second half of the 87-80 victory over Moravian on Wednesday night and then sank the game-winning layup with five seconds left in Drew's 75-74 triumph over Juniata on Saturday. He finished with 21 points, four assists and five steals against the Eagles.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Jay Howard, Catholic
    January 08, 2018
    (Sr., F - Pennsauken, N.J.) Catholic's senior forward Jay Howard set a new career-high with 33 points in the Cardinals upset win over previously undefeated Juniata. The Cards defeated the No. 23-ranked Eagles, 82-70, as Howard played all 40 minutes and went 12-of-19 from the field. Howard averaged nearly 30 points for the week with 26 against Widener, a game that saw a buzzer-beater go against the Cardinals. He ended the week with averages of 29.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 51.4 shooting from the floor and 74.2 from the line with 11.5 free throws.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Jay Howard, Catholic
    January 02, 2018
    (Sr., F - Pennsauken, N.J.) Senior Jay Howard led Catholic to its fourth-consecutive Catholic University - Holiday Inn College Park Classic title as he scored the game-winning basket with 0.5 seconds left to down Ursinus in the championship game and was named tournament MVP. Howard finished the contest with 28 points and went 10-of-13 from the free throw line. The senior is now perfect in holiday tournament games (8-0) as he played every minute of both games this year and rounded out his line with 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals in Catholic's 2-0 week.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Bryce Greene, Elizabethtown
    December 18, 2017
    (So., G - Westampton, N.J.) Elizabethtown sophomore Bryce Greene scored a career-high 27 points in leading Elizabethtown to its second straight comeback victory, 62-61, over Penn State Harrisburg Sunday. Greene was terrific, shooting 10-of-16 overall and 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Greene scored 15 points in the first half and added 12 in the second as the Jays overcame a six-point deficit.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Nate Aldrich, Drew
    December 11, 2017
    (Jr, F - Franklinville, N.J.) Drew junior Nate Aldrich recorded three consecutive double-doubles, as Drew notched wins over King's, FDU-Florham and Saint Elizabeth. He had a double-double by halftime against King's on Tuesday night, finishing with 18 points and 18 rebounds to go along with three assists and two blocks in the 92-88 triumph. Aldrich then tallied 14 points and 11 boards in a 90-69 triumph over rival FDU-Florham in the "Battle of Madison" on Thursday. He went 6-for-9 from the field and was also credited with a pair of blocks against the Devils. Aldrich concluded the week by shooting 10-for-11 from the floor in a 94-80 win at Saint Elizabeth on Sunday. He posted a season-high 22 points and added 12 rebounds for his third straight double-double and fourth of the season. In the three games, Aldrich averaged 18.0 points and 13.7 rebounds while notching a .719 shooting percentage.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Yonathan Napoleon, Drew
    December 04, 2017
    (Sr., G - Los Angeles, Calif.) Drew senior Yonathan Napoleon averaged 31.5 points while shooting 58.1 percent from the field and 69.2 percent from three-point range in games against Wilkes and Catholic. He tallied 29 points to go along with four assists and three rebounds against Wilkes on Wednesday night and drained five treys in the contest. Napoleon led Drew to its first win over Catholic since 2011 with a career-high 34 points. The senior went 9-for-14 from the field, 4-for-5 from downtown, and 12-for-13 at the line in the 91-83 victory. He also recorded four rebounds and four assists.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Marcus Lee, Juniata
    November 27, 2017
    (Sr., P - Carrolltown, PA.) Juniata senior Marcus Lee helped the Eagles to two wins over the holiday weekend. Lee scored 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds in Juniata's 80-54 win at Washington & Jefferson. On Saturday, the senior was 8-of-14 from the floor for 16 points and had 11 rebounds. On the week, Lee averaged 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds.
  • Men's Athlete of the Week - Jay Howard, Catholic
    November 20, 2017
    (Sr., F - Pennsauken, N.J.) Jay Howard was superb offensively for the Cardinals as they opened their season at the Hood Rotary Tip-Off this past weekend. Howard, who was selected to the all-tournament team, averaged 30.0 points on 65.8-percent shooting from the field and 90.9 percent from the line. He also added 16 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Howard set Hood Rotary Tip-Off Classic records for field goals made in a game (130), tournament (25) and helped Catholic to the most points scored (100) and averaged (89.0) in the tournament's history.
