Moravian Lacrosse Prevails In Overtime

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Junior attack Jason Tosches scored his fifth
goal of the match 1:45 into overtime to lift the Greyhounds to a
13-12 overtime win over Elizabethtown College in non-conference
action at Rocco Calvo Field.
The Blue Jays jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter
before Moravian ran of four straight goals with two by freshman
midfielder Robert Devine to lead 4-2 after 15 minutes of action.
The Greyhounds also score the first goal of the second quarter for
a 5-2 lead before Elizabethtown scored twice to cut the Moravian
lead to 5-4.
The Greyhounds responded with three more goals in a row including
two by Tosches to take their largest lead of the game at 8-4. The
Blue Jays would get two of those goals back before halftime which
saw Moravian holding an 8-6 lead.
Elizabethtown scored first in the third quarter and then two more
times including once with a man-down after a Greyhound score to tie
the match at 9-9 after 45 minutes. T
he Blue Jays would score twice to start the final quarter only to
have Tosches and Devine score and tie the match again at 11-11 with
5:52 to play. Just seven seconds later, Elizabethtown was back in
the lead as midfielder Jon Day won a face-off and scored
immediately. Devine would tie the contest again with 3:52 remaining
on a man-up goal.
In the overtime session, Tosches took a pass from junior defender
Steven Carroll on a Moravian clear and put the ball in the upper
portion of the net from the left side of the field.
The Greyhounds had a 36-33 edge in shots while Elizabethtown had a
52-47 advantage in ground balls and won 19 of 30 face-offs. Tosches
had an assist to go with his five goals for a total of six points
while Devine netted four goals to go with a team high 12 ground
balls and eight face-off wins. Freshman attack Christopher Mohapp
contributed a goal and two assists for Moravian while freshman
attack David Bennett had a goal and an assist. Freshman midfielder
David Forte netted a goal for Moravian while junior attack Keith
Danner had three assists. Carroll added four ground balls to go
with his assist on the winning goal.
Greyhound freshman goalie Benjamin Leavy made six saves and added
eight ground balls while earning his fourth win of the season.
Day led Elizabethtown with four goals and 14 ground balls while
winning 17 of 24 face-offs. Kurt Deschner added two goals and two
assists for the Blue Jays while Brian Schaaf had a goal and three
assists. Ryan McCafferty found the back of the net twice for
Elizabethtown while Josh Dougherty had a goal and an assist. Jeff
Long and Aaron Weber each had goals for the Blue Jays while Greg
Kenneally had three assists. Chris Schuch started in goal for
Elizabethtown, making one save in just over 15 minutes of action.
Austin Hayes finished out the game in the cage with 11 saves and
three ground balls.
