Scranton Cruises Past Wells

SCRANTON, Pa. — The University of Scranton jumped out to a
10-0 halftime lead on its way to a convincing 19-1 victory over
Wells College in non-conference action Thursday evening at
Fitzpatrick Field.
Sophomore midfielder Phil Lindner (Parlin, N.J./St. Joseph
Metuchen) led the Royals, now 9-3, with three goals and freshmen
attackers J.P. Barton (N. Brunswick, N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen) and
Thomas Alati (Glen Ridge, N.J./Montclair Kimberly) had two goals
and four assists apiece. Scranton, which held a commanding 49-11
advantage in shots and a 64-27 margin in ground balls, also
received two goals apiece from freshmen Sean Coleman (Philadelphia,
Pa./Roman Catholic), Christian Dugan (Avon, N.J./Christian Brothers
Academy), and Tim Golder (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville).
Wells, now 0-7, avoided the shutout in the third period, when
freshman midfielder Kylan Hallett (Basom, N.Y./Akron) scored an
unassisted goal. Freshman goalie Thomas Costigan (Clifton Park,
N.Y./Shenendehowa East) made a game-high 14 saves for The
Express.
Scranton’s 19-goal output is a season-high and the most for
the Royals since scoring 19 against Moravian on April 17, 2004.
With five regular-season games remaining, Scranton needs three more
wins to set a new school-record. The Royals will host backyard
neighbor Marywood University this Saturday, April 12, at
Fitzpatrick Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
