Catholic Overcomes Early Deficit To Down USMMA On The Road
KINGS POINT, N.Y. - After falling behind in the 14th minute, The
Catholic University men's soccer (15-3-1) rallied to score three
unanswered goals and earn the 3-1 victory. With the win the
Cardinals advance to the Landmark Conference Finals.
Matt Brady led the way for CUA scoring the equalizer and an
insurance goal late, as CUA outshot USMMA 10-5 in the second half.
Brady finished with two goals and an assist in the match.
Clint Foster scored in the 14th minute for the Mariners, but just
after halftime Brady broke through with the equalizer. Mike Brennan
earned the assist as Brady collected a rebound and found the mesh
in the 49th minute.
In the 73rd minute, the Cardinals struck again, as Bady found Kevin
Duffy on a direct kick. Duffy's header traveled passed the keeper
and gave the visitors the lead. Brady then added an insurance goal
in the 77th minute as he chipped the ball over the keeper from
beyond 15 yards.
CUA outshot the hosts 19-13 for the match and 10-5 in the second
half, but the hosts only managed four shots on goal. Quinn Daly
needed only three saves to earn the victory and help the Cardinals
advance to the Landmark Conference finals.
CUA will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 7. The Cardinals will
face the winner of the other Landmark semifinal, Drew or Scranton.
