Mariners Honor Seniors And Earn Another Win

Kings Point, N.Y. — The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy soccer team won its 12th straight game with a dominate 3-1 victory over Landmark Conference opponent Moravian. The Mariners outshot the Greyhounds 15-11. Three different Mariners netted a goal in the victory.

The Mariners improve to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in the Landmark Conference while Moravian falls to 3-8-2 overall and 1-2 in the Landmark Conference.

The Mariners put the pressure on the Greyhounds early with a goal by senior Ryan Hadley. At the 2:08 mark, Hadley received a pass from Josh Reicks and took one touch to place it past the Moravian goalkeeper. In the 17th minute of the game, the Mariners would take a 2-0 lead with continued pressure on the Greyhounds keeper. Junior Lane Gould fired a shot from 40 yards out and with perfect placement found the back of the left upper 90 corner for the goal. USMMA continued to push as they netted their third goal of the half in the 31st minute. Clint Foster chipped a pass over the Moravian defenders to Jonathan Espinoza. Espinoza then took one dribble and finished the goal from 15 yards out to put USMMA up 3-0 before the half.

Only one goal was scored in the second half and that came off the foot of the Greyhounds. Taylor Molinaro took a low shot from the right side and placed in the left lower 90 corner for the Greyhounds only goal of the game, 3-1.
