Drew Men's Tennis Continues Conference Streak

MADISON, N.J. - Drew advanced to the Landmark Conference finals
with a resounding 8-1 win over Moravian at the Drew Tennis Center.
Drew won all three doubles points to take command of the match and
then won five of the singles points for the 8-1 win. Drew had
narrowly defeated Moravian, 5-4, in the regular season. The Rangers
will take on Catholic on Saturday for the inaugural Landmark
Conference title.
The Rangers built a commanding lead by taking all three doubles
points. Vik Rao, who didn’t compete in the Rangers first
matchup with the Greyhounds, teamed with Jon Pivor to take the
first doubles point, 8-5. Alex Belfiore and Jason Woods cruised at
second doubles 8-3. The third doubles team of Sayed Saber and
Victor Kolarov picked up, perhaps, the most important point of the
match as they outlasted the Moravian duo at third doubles to grab a
3-0 lead for the Rangers.
In singles play, Alex Belfiore made quick work of Thomas Turcich to
put the Rangers within a point of the final. The freshman won at
fourth singles, 0 and 2, for a 4-0 Ranger lead. Sayed Saber would
clinch a few minutes later as he delivered donuts to his opponent,
winning in straights without dropping a game. Jon Pivor and Jason
Woods both won their singles matches, though Vik Rao would fall at
first singles to Landmark Player of the Year Ian Box. The final
match saw Jon Pransky take fifth singles in a good match with Keith
Feinman for the 8-1 final.
The Rangers will now take on Catholic, which they defeated 9-0
earlier in the year. Catholic was selected to finish second in the
Landmark behind the Rangers and proved their candidacy as a title
contender with a 6-3 win over a quality Scranton side. The 9-0
score is deceiving as the Cardinals had played the Rangers much
tougher than the score. Drew will be looking to win its eighth
straight conference title with the win.
