Mariner Men's Tennis Earns First Victory

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The United States Merchant Marine Academy
tennis team got its first victory, by beating Webb, 8-1 in a dual
match on Thursday day afternoon. Jeffrey Fasoli led the Mariners,
having shutout Webb in his doubles and singles matches. Billy
Coulter also won both his doubles and singles match.
The Mariners record improves to 1-6 on the season.
Coulter and Neal Duncan, for USMMA, won doubles match number one of
the day against Phil Duerr and Wombi Rose of Webb, 6-1. Tedi
Derrickson and Jenna Ferreri defeated USMMA’s Patricia Greene
and Beck, 6-6, 7-5. The Mariners took the last doubles match when
Cezar Pinilla and Jeffery Fasoli defeated Wombi Rose and Brett
Smart, 6-0.
In the singles matches, Lerner beat Duerr, 8-6. Webb’s
Derrickson fell to Coulter by a score of 8-1. Duncan defeated Rose
by a score of 8-3. In the fourth match, Pinilla won his match
against Smart, 8-2. Greene of USMMA beat Ferreri from Webb, 8-1.
The Mariners took the last singles match when Fasoli defeated
Domatelli by a score of 8-0.
The Mariners return to action on Saturday, April 5th as they travel
to Scranton University. The match is slated for 12:00 p.m.
