Moravian Advances To Landmark Men's Tennis Finals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The second seeded Moravian College men's tennis
team advanced to the 2009 Landmark Conference Championship match
after defeating third seeded The University of Scranton, 6-0, in a
Landmark Conference Semifinal match at Hoffman Courts.
The Greyhounds will now play at top seed Drew University on
Saturday, May 2nd at a time to be determined. The Rangers defeated
fourth seed Juniata College, 8-1, in the other semifinal match.
The victory for Moravian was its 13th of the season as the
Greyhounds tied the school record for victories in a year,
originally set in 1996 when the program was 13-3 and the last time
Moravian had a home postseason match.
Moravian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the doubles action. Sophomore
Doug Morrow and freshman Nick Yelito won 9-7 at first doubles while
freshmen Kevin Holze and Drew Shreter posted an 8-6 win at second
doubles, their 15th win of the season to extend their new school
record for a doubles team. Junior Chandler Forman and sophomore
Thomas Turcich earned a 9-8 win at third doubles with a 7-2 edge in
the tiebreaker.
The Greyhounds then won three singles matches to clinch the win
with Holze and Forman finishing at the same time as Moravian hit
the required five points to capture the victory. Holze, Forman and
junior Jason Bonilla all won in straight sets. Holze’s win
extended his school record total for the season to 21 victories.
Morrow had a one-set lead in his singles match when the contest
ended while Shreter and Yelito trailed by a set in the matches.
