Drew Rolls In NCAA Opening Round

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – The Drew University Rangers (12-5) entered today's first round NCAA Tournament match having won 11 of their last 12 matches and they continued their hot streak by collecting a 5-1 win over Farmingdale State (12-6) to advance to tomorrow's second round of the NCAA regional being played on the campus of Williams College.

Drew captured all three doubles matches, taking a commanding 3-0 lead into singles play.
First off the doubles court was the #2 pairing of Matt Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck)/Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) after they nabbed an 8-3 win. At three doubles the Rangers' duo of Djedjy Hill (Haiti/Rancocas Valley Regional)/Adam Gerber (Montclair, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) claimed an 8-2 win, while the top Drew duo of Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey)/Elliott Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) won 8-5.

Farmingdale's Joseph Falcetta won at five singles to put the Rams on the score board when he downed Hill in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Brisotti's straight set win at two singles, 6-3, 6-1, gave the Rangers their fourth point of the match and put them a win shy of taking the match.

Matt Imbo delivered the match clinching point for the Rangers when he won who won at six singles, downing Jack Eichler 6-2, 6-2.

With the win the Rangers improved their NCAA Tournament record to 2-3, while the Rams of Farmingdale State are now 1-2 in NCAA tourney play.

Drew will now take on host Williams (15-2) in the second round on Saturday at 11:00 AM. The Drew-Williams winner will advance to Sunday's regional final that is scheduled for a noon start.
