WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (May 12, 2012)- The Drew Men's Tennis team took a second round exit of the NCAA Division III Tournament this afternoon after 5-0 loss to Williams College (16-2). The Rangers finish their 2012 campaign with 12 wins and five losses.
Williams got off to a fast start in doubles play, sweeping all three matches. Bryan Chow and Trey Meyer defeated brothers Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and Elliot Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) at the number one position, 8-1. Felix Sun and Matt Micheli beat Matt Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) and Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) 8-3 at number two, and Kevin Shallcross and Will Petrie took down Djedjy Hill (Haiti/Rancocas Valley) and Adam Gerber (Montclair/Seton Hall Prep) 8-0 at number three.
Needing only two points out of singles play, Williams' Bryan Chow and Will Petrie each won in straight sets. Chow took down Hill 6-1, 6-1, and Petrie defeated Imbo 6-1, 6-0. The Ephs had won the first set of the other four matches that remained unfinished.
Williams will take on MIT on Sunday for with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line played in Cary, NC May 21-23.
