Moravian College head softball coach John Byrne and his staff of assistant coaches Ron Cardinal, Sarah Maulorico, Amy Rogersand Leah Homes have been named the 2010 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III East Region Coaching Staff of the Year announced by the NFCA.

Landmark Honors Spring Sport Senior Scholar Athletes
Eight student-athletes have been chosen as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective spring sports. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities.

Six Landmark Conference softball players have been selected to the 2010 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Softball All-Region Teams. The six honorees are one more than the five All-Region selections the Landmark earned last season.

Landmark Releases Softball All-Conference Team
After a season in which two Landmark teams earned NCAA Tournament berths and five teams finished .500 or better in conference play 26 student-athletes have been selected to the 2010 All-Landmark Conference Softball Team as voted by the conferences seven head coaches. The All-Landmark Team includes a first and second team, with the voting done by position. The voting took place prior to the start of the Landmark softball postseason.

A total of seven Landmark Conference teams have earned the right to represent the conference in NCAA Division III Tournament play as announced Monday May 10. The first teams will be in action on Wednesday as three teams take part in opening round games. One more will begin competition on Thursday, with the remaining three kicking off competition on Friday

The Rangers came back from a 3-0 deficit thanks to a pair of home runs by Kati Eggert (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) and Jillian Lusk (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains). Drew scored all six of its runs in their final three turns at bat to claim the 6-3 win.

Royals Take Two From Susquehanna
Senior Katherine Sansouci turned in two pitching gems that The University of Scranton so sorely needed today. With just four Landmark Conference games remaining, Sancouci tossed a pair of complete game victories as the Royals defeated Susquehanna, 7-1 and 7-3, to move into fourth place, two games ahead of Catholic University, for the final tournament spot.

Drews Adriana Durso (Old Tappan, N.J./Old Tappan Northern Valley) worked her way to two victories over the Stevens Institute of Technology Monday afternoon. Behind their junior ace, the Rangers pounded out 13 hits in the 8-0 game one victory and sophomore Jackie Mannino (Little Silver, N.J./Redbank) knocked in four runs in the 7-6 late-inning nightcap.

LaValley's Power Leads USMMA To Sweep
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy softball squad swept John Jay College in doubleheader fashion on Saturday afternoon at Kings Point Park in Kings Point, N.Y. by scores of 10-0 and 19-9. Senior pitcher Jess LaValley (Havelock, N.C.), who was a single away from the cycle in the opening game and a triple away from it in the second contest, belted two home runs and drove in seven runs on the day.

The Catholic University of America softball team (20-8) continued their winning ways with two victories against Drew University (17-7) Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals first defeated the Rangers 4-1, and then took game two in five innings, 8-0.

Offensive Explosion Gives Juniata Doubleheader Sweep
Hitless over her last eight games, Juniata College junior Melissa Moffat tried widening her stance in the batter's box in an effort to break her slump in the Eagles' Thursday afternoon doubleheader against Saint Vincent College. Yeah, that did the trick all right. Moffat erupted for a 5-for-8 performance at the plate, including a two-run home run in game two of the twinbill, leading Juniata to a 9-1 and 8-0 sweep of Saint Vincent.

Drew Shuts Down Muhlenberg In Doubleheader Sweep
The Drew softball squad completed a two game sweep of Muhlenberg Wednesday afternoon. Behind a 3-3 performance from junior second baseman Kati Eggert the Rangers shut out the Mules in the first game 3-0. In the second game rookie shortstop Jeramie Barletta went 2-4 with the game winning RBI to help the Rangers to their second straight win.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy softball team earned its second and third victories of the season in a doubleheader sweep of Lehman College at South Field in Bronx, N.Y. The final score of the first game was 11-0 in favor of the Mariners, while the second contests decision read 18-6.

Softball Teams Set For Another Competitive Season Of Landmark Play
After claiming the first Landmark Championship without dropping a game, Moravian College found the road to its second title a tad tougher as the Greyhounds dropped one game during the season and were pushed to extra innings twice in the potseason. With both the Greyhounds and several of the top teams welcoming back large numbers of starters, the race for the 2010 Landmark Championship and the NCAA automatic berth figures to once again be very tight.
