Hartnett Leads Rangers To Landmark Win

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Drew women's basketball picked up a big win with a 72-59 victory over USMMA in their first ever Landmark Conference game.  Allison Hartnett scored 21 points and Jessica DelVecchio added 12 as the Rangers improved to 2-3, 1-0.  The Rangers also handed the Mariners their first loss of the season.

Drew took a 28-21 lead into the break after a solid first half performance.  The game remained essentially tied for first 14 minutes of play before an 8-0 run turned a three point Drew lead into an 11 point 28-17 edge with just over two minutes remaining.  Ashley Logan and Michele Coradaro both hit free throws before Jessica Reid converted assists from Allison Hartnett and Lauren Koed in the run.  Though the Mariners finished the half on a 6-0 run, Drew still held a seven-point edge.

The Mariners twice cut the Ranger lead to three points in the second half; the last time with 13 minutes left on a Morgan Gartner jumper to make it 36-33.  Seemingly on the ropes, the Rangers turned to their veterans to pull the game out.  Hartnett responded with a jumper and Methvin followed with four free throws.  The youngsters then took over as Cordaro and Marissa Maffei, who had ten points in the game, scored the next two buckets before DelVecchio knocked down a three off Cordaro's assist, 49-40 Drew with just under ten minutes remaining.

The Mariners cut the lead back down to six, but Hartnett sparked an 11-0 run the sealed the win.  The senior had four free throws and a lay-up during the run that put Drew up 60-43.  The Rangers continued to hit their free throws to hold off the Mariners.

Hartnett finished with 21 points, five rebounds and three assists.  DelVecchio had 12 points.  Maffei had 10 points on 4-5 shooting.  The Rangers also got key contributions from Logan with nine and Methivn and Reid with eight points each.  The Rangers bench outscored the USMMA subs, 31-18.

Drew improves to 2-3, 1-0 in the Landmark Conference.  Drew gets back into action on Saturday when they face NYU at Baldwin Gym.
