Catholic Women's Hoops Cruises Past Local Rival
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Thirteen players saw the hardwood with each
player scoring at least two points as CUA (12-4) dropped Michigan
Avenue rival Trinity College, 91-46 on Tuesday evening.
Jill Woerner led the scoring with a team-high 17 points, shooting
5-of-7 from three point range while adding two blocks and three
steals. Kate Robinson and Kristen Kitrick each added 10 points to
join Woerner in double figures for the Cards. Kitrick shot a
perfect 5-of-5 from the bench in the second half.
Ashley Brown provided nearly half of the Trinity offense scoring 20
points while adding nine rebounds in the loss.
CUA opened the game slowly trailing by two in the early parts of
the game, but a triple by Kelly Ryan with 13:25 remaining in the
first half put the Cardinals ahead for good. The Cards extended
that lead throughout the remainder of the period, out scoring their
opponents 41-11.
In the first half CUA shot 18-of-40 from the field and out
rebounded its opponents 24-19.
After the break it was more of the same as CUA out scored Trinity
38-24 in the second half extending its lead to as many as 49 with
1:06 remaining.
For the contest CUA scored 40 points off turnovers including 16 on
a fast break. The Cardinal bench scored 42 points while the
dominating inside performance rendered 38 points in the paint and a
46-39 rebounding advantage in favor of the hosts.
CUA will return to action on the road as the Cardinals will travel
to Scranton for a women's and men's doubleheader beginning at 5:30
p.m. with the women's game on Friday.
