Goucher Snares Win In Overtime

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Goucher was presented with an opportunity for
a "sudden victory" over Landmark Conference opponent Susquehanna
today when Marlo Tersigni (Worcester, MA/Lawrence Academy) was
awarded a free-position shot :46 into the third overtime.
The junior converted, scoring her third goal of the contest and
touching off the celebration of an 11-10 triumph over the Crusaders
(4-7, 1-2 Landmark).
Tersigni accounted for Goucher's first goal of the game, as well -
the only one the Gophers (3-8, 2-1 Landmark) scored during the
opening 22:21. They trailed 6-1 when Susquehanna's Mary Minuni
tallied an unassisted goal with 9:32 remaining in the first
half.
Over the final 7:38 of the opening period, however, goals by Sheila
O'Neal Antioch, CA/Dunn School), Emily Blatter (Lexington,
VA/Rockbridge County), Colleen Cole (Holliston, MA/Northfield Mt.
Hebron School) and Kate Knitter (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge)
allowed the Gophers to close to with 7-5 at the break.
The Gophers never led in the second half, but Blatter's goal with
1:42 left to play tied the score up at 9-9 and forced overtime.
In the second of two three-minute extra sessions, Blatter put
Goucher ahead with an unassisted goal, but the Crusaders answered,
tying the score up with a goal by Kelly Coffey with just :26
showing on the clock.
With the win, head coach Katie Trainor's Gophers moved into a tie
with Drew for second place in the Landmark Conference.
