Greyhounds Defend Home Field In Semifinal Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The second-seeded Greyhounds earned a berth in the first-ever Landmark Conference Tournament Championship match with a 2-0 shutout of third seed The Catholic University of America in a semifinal contest on the HUB Quad.

Moravian will travel to top seeded The University of Scranton for the Landmark Conference Championship match on Saturday, November 3rd at 1:00 p.m. The Royals defeated fourth seeded Juniata College, 3-2, in the other semifinal contest.

Moravian junior goalie Caitlin Corrigan made four saves, all in the second half, for her 11th shutout of the season, extending her school career mark with her 26th career shutout.

The Greyhounds would give Corrigan all of the offense she needed in the eighth minute when senior midfielder Jill Newswanger tapped in a corner kick by senior midfielder Allison Solomita for Newswanger's third goal of the season. Solomita took the kick from the left corner while Newswanger hit the shot in on the back right side of the net.

Moravian would add a second goal in the first half when senior forward Tracy Fitzpatrick netted her team leading 13th goal of the season on a penalty kick. T

he Cardinals finished the match with a 10-9 advantage in shots while the Greyhounds had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Both teams each had a shot the either hit the cross bar or the post during the contest.

Sophomore goalie Tere Rossi had three saves for Catholic, and the Cardinals had one team save with a defender clearing the ball off of the end line.
