One Goal Not Enough For Catholic Women In NCAA Soccer Tourney

LEXINGTON, Va. - Courtney Orgill (Wall, N.J./Wall) scored
Catholic University's only goal of the contest as the Cardinals
fell to Lynchburg College, 5-1, on Saturday in the first round of
the 2009 NCAA Tourament played at Washington & Lee
University.
Joanie Snyder got the Hornets on the board in the 11th minute and
Betsy Kwaitkowski added a goal seven minutes later to establish an
early 2-0 lead. Orgill got the Cardinals back in the game with her
goal from 18 yards out in the 20th minute, but two more quick
strikes past CUA goalkeeper Tere Rossi (Annandale, Va./Falls
Church) in the 29th and 32nd minutes gave Lynchburg a 4-1 lead at
the half.
Catholic made some personnel changes to start the second half, but
the Hornets got their fifth goal of the game when they stretched
out the CUA defense on a counter-attack after a free kick in
Lynchburg's defensive third of the field. Kwaitkowski streaked into
the Catholic half of the field and beat goalkeeper Christina
Cassidy (Furlong, Pa./Central Bucks West) in the 49th minute to
seal the victory for Lynchburg. This is the second NCAA win for the
Hornets over CUA as they also won in the first round back in 2005
by a 3-1 score.
Orgill's first half goal was her 15th of the season and sets a new
CUA Women's Soccer freshman record. The Cardinals finished the 2009
season with a 17-3-1 overall record and a 4-1-1 record in the
Landmark Conference en route to the team's first Landmark
Championship.
Kelly Donnelly (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) finished her junior
year with 14 goals and seven assists to lead all Cardinal scorers,
and the Landmark Conference, with 35 points. Orgill finished second
on the team in points with 30. The CUA keepers allowed 20 goals in
21 games this season for a 0.94 GAA with 12 shutouts. Rossi led the
way with 13 starts, a 1.32 GAA, and six shutouts.
