Rangers Cruise Past Yeshiva

MADISON, N.J. - Drew women’s tennis swept to a 9-0 win over Yeshiva in a rare night match played at Drew Tennis Center. The Rangers did not drop a set in the match as they improved to 5-12 on the season. The match serves as a warm-up to the Rangers’ match with Scranton on Saturday that will decide Drew’s playoff fate.

The Rangers had a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Stephanie Leondis and Amber Porzio improved to 9-1 as a doubles team with a 8-2 win. Michele Gbelama and Kristin Brown won at first doubles, 8-1, while Cathy Jacobs and Laura Ferguson won 8-3 at third singles.

Brown cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles for Drew’s fourth point. Leondis went 0 and 1 at second singles while Jacobs dropped just one more game in her 6-2, 6-0 win. Rebecca Olderman picked up her first win in singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win.

The Rangers have their biggest match of the season at Scranton on Saturday. If the Rangers win and Goucher defeats Susquehanna, the Rangers will earn the fourth seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs.
