Moravian Defends Landmark Women's Tennis Crown
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Top seed Moravian captured its second straight
Landmark Conference Women’s Tennis Championship, defeating
third seed Goucher College, 8-1, at Hoffman Courts. The Greyhounds
finish the season with an eight-match winning streak to post a 14-5
overall record and have not lost two a Landmark Conference opponent
in the two-year history of the conference.
The title is Moravian’s tenth in the last 15 years, and it
was the 15th straight season the Greyhounds played in the
conference championship match. Goucher ends the year with a 13-5
record.
Moravian jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles action.
Freshman Jami Fein and senior Dyana Swan earned an 8-3 win at first
doubles while freshmen Melissa Emery and Anna Meola also won 8-3 at
second doubles. Senior MaryKate Kelly and Kerry McKinley won 8-2 at
third doubles.
The Greyhounds then won five of the six singles matches to clinch
the victory. Fein won in straight sets at first singles while Swan
and Kelly each completed their careers with straight sets wins at
second and third singles respectively. McKinley also won in
straight sets at fourth singles for her school record 20th singles
win of the season. Meola had a straight sets win at sixth singles.
