Crusaders Look Strong At Flatland Invitational
MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Susquehanna cross country teams showed that their preseason number one rankings in the Landmark Conference were not misleading ones. The men's squad captured first place at the Flatland Invitational on Saturday while the women's team placed third and saw Alycia Woodruff (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) take home first place.
The men's run was just over an 8k distance (8,070 meters) while the women's run was over its 5k mark (5,135 meters).
SU's men boasted five top-10 finishers, led by David Haklar's (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) third-place time of 26:32.71. The Crusaders swept the five through seven spots, with Ian Quinlan (Eagle View, Pa./Methacton/Lehigh) taking fifth, Rob Steffen (New Castle, Del./Caravel Academy) sixth and Joe Zamadics (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) seventh with times of 26:42.23, 27:09.92 and 27:26.48, respectively.
The men finished in an average time of 27:10.00 to earn 31 total points, beating out second-place Bloomsburg, who had 38 points and an average time of 27:24.48. Mansfield placed third and Bloomfield took home fourth.
On the women's side, Woodruff ran to a first-place finish with her time of 19:16.33 to become SU's top finisher for the day. Joining her in the top-10 was junior Casey Hess (Bloomsburg Pa./Bloomsburg Area), who placed eighth with a time of 20:21.13.
Overall the women took home third place with an average time of 20:22.65 and 47 points. Mansfield claimed the number one spot, while Bloomsburg earned second and Bloomfield came in fourth.
