Kathryn Walker Named Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the first six honorees will be announced over the next two weeks.
Goucher College's Kathryn Walker has been named the Women's Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete. The award marks the third time a Goucher student-athlete has won the award for women's cross country. She is a three-year member of the cross country team, having studied abroad during the 2012-13 year. This past season she placed 36th at the Landmark Championships helping the Gophers to a fourth place finish.
Walker posted her fastest 6,000-meter time as a sophomore at the Coach Achtzehn Classic hosted by York College (Pa.). She placed ninth at the race in 25:08.91. Walker also finished a career-best, 16th place, at the Landmark Championships that year.
Academically, Walker boasts a 3.83 cumulative grade point average while majoring in French. She has a concentration in culture and civilization and minors in art history. Originally from Plymouth Meeting, Pa., Walker serves as a writing center tutor, French student instructor and editor for The Quindecim, the Goucher student newspaper.
While studying abroad in Paris last year, Walker interned at a children's art museum and an online literature review magazine. She also managed to find time to race in a variety of events including a second place finish in the 2012 Semi-Marathon de Boulogne-Billancourt.
