Juniata Picks Jason Cohen To Lead Tennis Programs

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Jason Cohen, a former all-conference collegiate player with nearly five years of collegiate and club coaching experience, has been named head men's and women's tennis coach at Juniata College, it was announced today by Juniata athletics director Greg Curley.

"Jason is a great addition to our coaching staff and I'm pleased he will be joining us," said Juniata athletics director Greg Curley. "We are fortunate to have someone with his level of coaching experience at the college and club level, and I am confident he will be successful here at Juniata. Former coach Beth Bleil left our program in great shape, and I believe Jason will be able to build upon her success."

Cohen arrives at Juniata College from Stevenson University in Stevenson, Md., where he has been the head men's and women's tennis coach since 2007. During Cohen's tenure at Stevenson, the Mustangs qualified for the Capital Athletic Conference tournament every season, and three of Cohen's student-athletes earned All-CAC honors.

Academically, the Cohen-coached Stevenson women's team won the school's GPA award in 2010, and finished second in 2011.

Cohen led Stevenson tennis in a number of community service and outreach programs during his time as head coach. The Mustang tennis student-athletes volunteered with the Special Olympics national championships during the team's 2011 spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., and volunteered time with the Maryland Unified Sports Tennis State High School Invitational.

On campus, Stevenson hosted a USTA men's open event in each of the last four seasons, and also hosted a USTA Campus Kid's Day in 2010 to raise interest in both Stevenson tennis and the sport in general.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Cohen was a teaching pro at Greenspring Racquet Club from 2008 to 2011. Since 2011, Cohen has been the assistant tennis pro at Baltimore Country Club.

A four-year letterwinner at Stevenson (then known as Villa Julie College), Cohen played no. 1 singles and doubles for the Mustangs, completing his career with the school records for singles and doubles victories. A three-time team captain, he twice earned All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) honors and led the Mustangs to NEAC championships in his junior and senior seasons. A 2007 graduate of Stevenson, Cohen has a bachelor's degree in computer information systems.

Cohen began his duties at Juniata on Monday, Jan. 16.
