Field Hockey Players Honored With All-Landmark Honors

Field Hockey Players Honored With All-Landmark Honors

TOWSON, Md. – Four-time First Team All-Landmark selection and 2013 All-American Maura Campbell of Catholic University has been named the Landmark Player of the Year. Scranton's Alyssa Fania was voted the Offensive Player of the Year and Drew's Michele Pozyc was named the Rookie of the Year. The Catholic coaching staff led by head coach Gia Cillizza was voted Coaching Staff of the Year.

Campbell does it all for Catholic, covering both ends of the field as a midfielder. She leads the team with 20 points on eight goals and four assists. Campbell is essential to both attack and defensive penalty corners and has been described as the perfect combination of work ethic and talent.

Fania led the Landmark in goals, assists and points this season. She racked up 18 goals and eight assists for 44 points. A dynamic playmaker for the Royals, Fania tied for the top spot in conference points as well with 10.

Campbell and Fania were also named to the First Team All-Landmark. The third midfielder on the First Team is Elizabethtown's Taylor Alwine. The Blue Jays' senior was a two-time First Team All-Commonwealth selection before Elizabethtown joined the Landmark this season. Alwine notched 16 points on six goals and four assists this season.

The First Team forwards include Juniata's Sarah Bilheimer, Scranton's Krista Osborne, and Catholic's Kim Hermann and Colleen Harwood. Bilheimer led the Eagles in scoring this season with nine goals and seven assists for 25 points. Osborne was right behind her teammate, Fania, in scoring with 16 goals and six assists for 38 points. Hermann joins Campbell as another four-time First Team All-Landmark selection. Hermann finished the regular season with three goals, all of them in Landmark play. A three-time First Team selection herself, Harwood boasts six goals this season including three game-winners.

Catholic's Tarah Portland leads the First Team defense. She is a major asset to the Cardinals' backfield helping the team to a conference-low 0.84 goals against average this season. The team has allowed just 16 goals all season, five in conference play and Portland is a big part of that while also contributing four goals. Juniata's Kelsey Leibelsberger is another First Team defender and considered the consummate cover player. She had two defensive saves during the regular season and helped the Eagles to a 1.15 goals against average this season. Jessica Pankey from the University of Scranton has earned First Team honors for the third consecutive season. She helped the Royals earn nine shutouts and added two goals.

Juniata's Julianne Jones and Catholic's Analisa Scott were voted the top goalkeepers in the conference. Jones currently ranks second in NCAA Division III for save percentage at 0.865. She finished the regular season with 0.82 goals against average and 67 saves. Scott had a 0.88 goals against average through 16 regular season games. She allowed just four goals in conference play for a 0.64 average. Scott also amassed three shutouts during the regular season.

Pozyc played every minute of every game during her rookie campaign at Drew this season. The freshman finished with a Landmark record 17 defensive saves this season to rank second in Division III. In addition to earning Rookie of the Year honors, Pozyc was named to the All-Landmark Second Team.

Cillizza collected her fifth Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year honor in eight seasons of Landmark competition. The Cardinals' coaching staff led Catholic to the No. 1 seed in the Landmark tournament and its seventh appearance in the conference championship game. Ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division III, the Cardinals will open the NCAA tournament on Saturday.
