Goucher Selected to Repeat as Landmark Champions

Goucher Selected to Repeat as Landmark Champions

TOWSON, Md. – After claiming its third straight Landmark title last season, Goucher College was selected as the favorite in the Landmark preseason coaches’ poll, which is voted on by the league’s head coaches.

First-year head coach Eric Spangler inherits a strong Goucher team that returns six members from the 2018 championship team. Of the six, two are all-conference performers, including Rookie of the Year and First-Team Singles and Doubles selection Tetsuya Ota, and Second-Team selection Michael Herman.

University of Scranton looks to win their first Landmark Conference championship in program history in 2019, as Scranton returns their top four singles competitors from a team that went 13-4 overall last year and advanced to the Landmark championship match for the first time since 2013. Leading the way for All-Landmark Conference selections from a season ago in Brian Harkins, Tarquin McGurrin and Alexander Ochalski.

Juniata College returns three starters to the lineup, including Owen Grafe and Dan Ansel, both that were selected as Second Team All-Conference a year ago. The Eagles will have replace Daichi McAuliffe-Uchida, a dominating force in the Eagles lineup.

Under second-year Head Coach Scott Veith, Drew Univerrsity returns their entire team from last year's squad that finished 13-5 and went 3-4 in the Landmark Conference. Leading the way is senior Vineet Vemulapally, who earned All-Landmark Conference honors in both singles and doubles. Junior Geoffrey Diehl also returns as a First-Team All-Landmark Conference selection in doubles.

Susquehanna University finished in fifth, followed by Catholic University in sixth. Moravian College and Elizabethtown College rounded out the poll in a tie for seventh.
