Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. — The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week for January 13-19. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to the team throughout the season.

The two remaining undefeated teams in conference play squared off in men's basketball on Saturday when Scranton traveled to Catholic. The Cardinals took over sole possession of first place after their 71-65 victory, and they have now won seven straight games overall. Susquehanna and Elizabethtown also won a pair of Landmark games last week, and those two teams now sit in third and fourth place, respectively.

There are no undefeated teams left on the women's side after Catholic edged out Scranton 46-42 on Saturday to hand the nationally-ranked Royals their first Landmark loss of the season and only their second defeat overall. Scranton, which is now 7-1 in conference games, maintains a half-game advantage over Catholic and Susquehanna. The Crusaders registered victories over Juniata and Drew, while fourth-place Moravian defeated Goucher in its only Landmark contest last week to improve to 5-2 in conference play.

There were three meets between Landmark opponents in the pool on Saturday. Marywood's men's and women's swim teams swept Goucher, and Juniata's women defeated Drew by a score of 98-85. The men's squad from Merchant Marine posted a 154-145 victory at Coast Guard, defeating its maritime rivals for a second-straight season. Four schools will be in action this week as the countdown continues towards the start of the Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 13.

The indoor track & field season began to kick back into gear over the weekend, with four teams competing. Susquehanna hosted its first meet since a resurfacing of its track over winter break in preparation. The renovated track will host the conference championships on Feb. 28. Six teams have meets scheduled during the upcoming week.
