TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference has held six Outdoor Track & Field Championships and Moravian College has won all six men's titles. The Greyhounds were the unanimous pick to repeat this spring with their seventh straight after earning five first place votes and 50 points in the preseason poll.
Susquehanna University was picked second with 38 points and the remaining first place vote while Juniata College finished third with 27 points.
Moravian enters the season with another core of strong returners that earned 14 Landmark All-Conference honors last year. Seniors Kristopher Joint and Timothy Lorah each earned All-America honors a year ago. Sophomore Albert Myers also returns after being named the Landmark Outdoor Rookie of the Year last season.
The Susquehanna men's team returns 216 of 239 points from last year's second-place team. Distance will be an obvious strong point as the Crusaders won the 2013 Landmark Conference XC championship. While the team will certainly miss multiple Landmark Field Athlete of the Year winner Ken Schetroma, younger brother Tom Schetroma will anchor the throws while two-time NCAA javelin qualifier Jared Minori returns for his junior season. In addition, the sprints are deeper with the return of Kwane Hayle and the addition of several talented freshmen.
Juniata returns an experienced group of student-athletes this season and the Eagles are coming off of a third place finish at the Landmark Indoor Championships. Nate Alter is the team's top distance runner while Tyler Mandley is a talented hurdler.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was picked fourth in the poll with 23 points while Catholic University finished fifth with 11 points. Goucher College rounds out the poll in sixth with seven points.
The 2014 season kicks off this weekend with four of the six teams in action. All six conference teams will compete at the Landmark Championships May 3-4 at Merchant Marine in Kings Point, N.Y.
