Catholic Expected to Repeat As Landmark Champion

Catholic Expected to Repeat As Landmark Champion

TOWSON, Md. – After claiming its fifth straight Landmark title last season, Catholic University was selected as the favorite in the Landmark preseason coaches’ poll, which is voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Catholic has won 31-straight games in Landmark Conference play with the team's last loss came back on Apr. 20, 2013. The Cardinals have won 10 of the 11 conference titles awarded since 2008, including five-straight and are 56-2 since joining the Landmark Conference.

Coming off back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Landmark Conference, the University of Scranton looks to get over the championship hump in 2019 under new head coach Chrissy Trescavage, who previously coached at Misericordia and Lycoming for six total years. The Royals return the core of both their offensive and defensive units from last year, paced by leading returning defender Becca Russo and last seasons offensive leader Elena Gallo.

Head Coach Kristen Nicholson enters her fourth season looking to lead Moravian College to the Landmark Conference Championship for a second straight year after Moravian made the program's first conference postseason appearance last spring. Nicholson has seven seniors that have helped the program return to varsity status and make two postseason appearances in three years.

Under fourth-year Head Coach Jane Karger, the Drew University returns the bulk of their team that finished fourth in the Landmark Conference last season at 4-3 (10-7 overall). Offensively, Drew brings back its top-three scorers, including all-region and all-conference selection Allie DiDario, who racked up 66 points on 45 goals and 21 assists a year ago. She also led the team in caused turnovers (56) and draw controls (111). In goal, sophomore Katiana Michalski is back after posting an 11.44 goals-against average and a .491 save percentage last season.

Elizabethtown College finished in fifth, followed by Susquehanna University in sixth. Goucher College ranked seventh and second-year program Juniata College rounded out the poll in eight.

The 2019 starts on Saturday, Feb. 16 with Scranton and Goucher in action.
