Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Conference play wrapped up for the eight Landmark volleyball teams this weekend. Juniata locked up the top seed in the tournament for the eighth consecutive year. Susquehanna, Scranton, and Moravian secured the other three bids. Juniata and Susquehanna will host the two semifinal matches Tuesday, Nov. 4 with the highest remaining seed hosting the championship Saturday, Nov. 8.

The Landmark cross country teams wrapped up their "regular season" this week with the final meets before the conference championship Nov. 1.

Catholic field hockey clinched the first of the four spots in the Landmark tournament with two conference wins this week. The Cardinals improved to 5-0 and remain the only team left undefeated in conference play. Elizabethtown and Juniata are currently tied for second in the standings at 3-1.

Catholic men's soccer also maintained its lead in the Landmark standings. The Cardinals shutout Scranton to pick up three points and hold a one point lead over Merchant Marine. On the women's side, Catholic defeated Scranton 2-1 in overtime to snap the Royals' 35-game unbeaten streak against conference foes.

A number of swimming and diving teams opened competition this week with six meets on the schedule. Suquehanna hosted the first Schweikert Relays, held in honor of late swimming coach George Edward "Ged" Schweikert III, who passed away in 2008 after an eight-year battle with multiple myeloma. All proceeds from the event went to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), a non-profit organization whose only motivation is to find a cure.
